The history of Israel/Judea, is complicated, however, the Hebrews/Israelis settled that region around 2,000 BCE. There were a few other tribes in the area and the Hebrews/Israelis fought and created their own kingdom and establishing Jerusalem in 1,000 BCE.Other people have lived in Palestine for more than a thousand years. You can't erase them for your "self-determination".
While the Assyrians and then the Romans held control, followed by the Christian Holy Roman Empire, Islam was spread there in the mid-6th century CE, over 1,500 years after Jerusalem's founding. Like the Assyrians and Romans before them, they used military force to subjugate the region. Yet, through all of this, Hebrews/Israelis still lived there and dreamed of getting their nation back.
Well, they are the original, indigenous population and after the second world war, other Hebrews/Israelis returned, and they got their nation back. It is recognized that Muslims have been residing there for centuries after forcing their way into the region, but the issue is, that they refuse to live under infidel rule.
