11 Trillion Gallons of Water Force Small Government Cons to Go Begging

The people there still pay taxes they have no choice in that so they deserve help with money they've paid in for centuries.
South Carolina, like most red states, takes in more federal money than they pay out.

That's due to the only blue district in the state running that number up.
No it's because red states, besides Texas, barely contribute to the total GDP.

The red districts in the state do contribute. It's the blue one that gets so much that makes the rest of us look bad.
The blue districts are the ones that contribute most to red state GDP's.

Not in SC. When the only blue district has an median income that is just above 80% of the closest red district, that claim doesn't hold water. Like I said, and now have proven, your statement isn't true here.

That's nonsense and you know it. The small government cons want it both ways, refuse funding but run for it when there is an emergency. No planning, just hype.

It's your ilk that wants it both ways. You force people to pay for your boondoggle programs, and then you call them names if they attempt to collect the benefits they have paid for.

That is so beautifully Nazi-like.

Not true, its your guys that rejected help and now want help. If they had saved like good little piggies they wouldn't need help and would look like small government conservatives. Instead, they look like they're on the public assistance band wagon.

Your response amounts to saying "huh uhn!"

You're too fucking stupid to waste bandwidth on.
LOL coming from the person who gets their haircut at the pet shop.
Oh wow. That was clever.
Look, you tried to troll. You failed. Live with that

If you're going to be a smartass, First you have to be smart. Otherwise like you, you're just an ass.

The blue counties contribute the most to GDP. Charleston has a much larger economy than, for example, Beaufort.

If you look at the map of the only blue district in SC, it doesn't include the parts that add to the economy. Those are controlled by a red representative. The counties that make up that blue district are some of the poorest in the state as evidenced by the lowest median incomes of all 7 districts. You can claim what you want but the NUMBERS say otherwise.

It's also incorrect in my States. The only blue district in the State is the poorest by far.

Supporters say many of the appropriations are necessary to respond to disasters, though some are unrelated to the storm:

¶ $150 million for fisheries in Alaska.

¶ $2 million to fix museum roofs in Washington.

¶ $20 million for watershed restoration in response to wildfires in Colorado.

¶ $1 million for the Legal Services Corporation.

¶ $56.8 million for tsunami marine debris remediation.

¶ $5 million for Corps of Engineers investigations unrelated to the hurricane.

¶ $499 million in Corps of Engineers construction funds for disasters occurring before the storm.

¶ $578 million for flood-control mitigation projects by the corps unrelated to the storm.

¶ $28 million for watershed protection activities unrelated to the storm.

¶ $4 million to the F.B.I. to replace vehicles, office equipment and furniture.

¶ $1 million for the Drug Enforcement Administration to replace 15 vehicles and equipment.

¶ $230,000 to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to replace three vehicles and furniture.

¶ $15 million for construction at NASA facilities, including restoration of sand berms.

¶ $855,000 to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to replace vehicles.

¶ $300,000 for the Secret Service to replace vehicles and communications equipment.

¶ $50 million for National Park Service historic preservation activities.

¶ $150 million for the Interior Department to create a fund that may be used for restoration at national parks and refuges affected by disasters.

They may not be storm related but they look like things that need to be done.

So you're infatuated with massive big govt. No surprise there.

The portion of Charleston that actually contributes significantly to the economy is red. That district includes all of Horry County. It includes Myrtle Beach and that is the #1 revenue generating area in the State. Don't think so, think again. Many of the school districts tried starting school in the first week August several years ago. When it disrupted much of the revenue generation from the coastal area, the legislature quickly changed the law not allowing any district to start before the third week in August. Again, the area that caused this was a RED one not a blue one.

YAWN

you can always count on left-wing losers to use straw man arguments. the Right is for less government, not no government.

libs are losers who lie TO THEMSELVES. this is why you left-wing idiots are on the way out
We can always count on you, to give your meaningless replies of partisan propaganda!!! YAWN
And we can always count on you flaming libs to stand firm on straw man arguments, half truths and talking points.
The fact is, one of your lib brethren attempted to troll this board and failed. He failed on a bullshit argument that had no chance of success.
actually, he didn't fail at all, his point was quite clear...

Republicans from the affected flood area, refused to give hurricane Sandy relief to New Jersey 3 years ago for Hurricane Sandy are now begging for federal relief for their state's natural disaster....and they want it NOW!

The right wing's ''talking point'' is that the Sandy relief bill had too much pork in it....implying that Democrats were getting the ''pork'',

when it was REALLY REPUBLICAN PORK in the bill for other republican states that got this PORK....

republicans obviously can't even control other republicans from the PORK BARREL.

They are a laughing stock of hypocrisy...do as I say, but not as I do.... type of politicians....

and yes, there is plenty of that to go around...

but right now, this moment, it highlights the repubs...

Are you dumb? Look up GDP by state, or city, or whatever. You'll find blue cities and states at the top.

The bill that was defeated prevented no emergency services from going to the Sandy area. It was a bill to further fund reconstruction, and a bill was passed that was significantly slimmed down.

The funding for true Emergency services is already in place, what gets debated is replenishing that fund, and funding reconstruction.

I did for MY state, provided evidence of it, and you still don't believe me.

Asking am I dumb isn't proof of your claim.

Kewl, let's kill about half of the federal government and leave that money in the States, then they will have the resources to take care of things like this. Of course big government stateist like you will never go along with that.
Actually no, OKtexas

States do not tax like the federal government. in comparison, states tax like 10 to 25% of what federal income tax takes. S outh Carolina probably have an even lower rate.

In the end, unless they have a rainy day savings acct, the state would face large debts trying to help their citizens

So you can't figure out if the feds took less, more would be available to the States to have a rainy day fund, fix their roads and other infrastructure without having to go begging to the feds? Also, if this was the case, there would be far fewer bureaucrats involved in the process.

Blue State, Red Face: Guess Who Benefits More From Your Taxes?

Top Ten (Source: Tax Foundation):

1. New Mexico Indian reservations, military bases, federal research labs, farm subsidies, retirement programs

2. Mississippi Farm subsidies, military spending, nutrition and anti-poverty aid, retirement programs.

3. Alaska Per capita No 1 recipient of federal benefits; infrastructure projects, DOT and pork projects.

4. Louisiana Disaster relief, farm subsidies, anti-poverty and nutrition aid, military spending.

5. W. Virginia Farm subsidies, anti-poverty and nutrition aid.

6. N. Dakota Farm subsidies, energy subsidies, retirement and anti-poverty programs, Indian reservations.

7. Alabama Retirement programs, anti-poverty and nutrition aid, federal space/military spending, farm subsidies.

8. S. Dakota Retirement programs, nutrition aid, farm subsidies, military spending, Indian reservations.

9. Virginia Civil service pensions, military spending, veterans benefits, retirement, anti-poverty aid.

10. Kentucky Retirement programs, nutritional and anti-poverty aid, farm subsidies.

Now consider the bottom 10, i.e., the ones that give more to the federal government in taxes than they get in return. From 1 to 10, they are:

New Jersey, Nevada, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Illinois, Delaware, California, New York, Colorado.

Anything strange about that list? Yes, they are all blue states (or the deepest of purple).

Wrong, I'm looking for a reasonable explanation why they went unprepared. Big talk, no action, is what I'm seeing and I'd like to know why Or is it just normal to refuse federal help and leave millions of people dangling because a politician wanted to make a point?

Bad choices.

Most of the residents didn't even have flood insurance.

Yeeeehawww.
