Grampa, this is a very good post. Here in the Lowcountry of SC, we had a similar problem with Colleton County. Its a fairly rural county, but, lots of gangs of young men have taken it over, and the murder RATE (not total, just the rate per 10K people) was comparable to Chicago. The local and county police were overwhelmed. So, the state police (SLED) came in with a large amount of manpower, firepower, equipment, and absolutely cracked down. Lots and lots of arrests, gangs broken up, drugs and guns confiscated (illegal ones). And now? Its much better, with just occasional crimes.

Chicago needs the same thing, but on a much larger scale. State police. National guard. FBI.

But, we see that sometimes there is a LOT more support to spend resources on policing Baghdad or Kabul than Detroit and Chicago.

The solution to fix Chicago crime is very simple, and possible.

Mass influx of manpower from the State police, CPD, County sheriff's dept, FBI, National Guard, DEA, ATF.

Mass arrests. Look into the "Broken Windows Theory" which shows that cracking down on lots of petty crimes will stop big ones.

Just put the hammer down. Thousands of arrests. Confiscate all illegal guns found in the process. Eradicate it all. Use federal gang laws to lump in mass numbers of gang members with conspiracy charges (South Carolina did this with Colleton County, near Charleston which had a similar gang problem).

Of course.....it'll be ugly. And violent at first. And will generate bad PR. And make people hate cops.

NYPD did this type of aggressive action, and cleaned up NYC's crime problem with miraculous results. But now, NYPD is raked over the coals for aggressive policing.

Chicago can be fixed. But do the American people have the same tolerance for policing Chicago that we tolerate to police foreign cities that we occupy? Because only mass, aggressive policing will fix it.

OH....and it costs money too.

why is this important? for one whites killing blacks is a very very low percentage, while blacks killing black is much much higher, meaning it is a much bigger problem
