A challenge to ALL of you whining about P. Dean's firing

How stupid we all look because of the gestapo PC police in this country.
A persons long and successful career ended because she admitted to using a racial slur years ago, and even saying afterwords that she hasn't in a long time - doesn't matter - your history, go bury yourself.
If anything we should all stop buying the products that dropped her - including Food Network - for THEIR intolerance.

Let me break it down as I don't believe you should be faulting the Network here; it all comes down to $'s.

As a society we've decided that publicly admitting to using racial slurs is something to be looked down upon. It's not good practice, and (in my opinion) rightfully so.

As a result of the info that came out recently, Paula's show (moving forward) would have now garnered less ratings and ultimately less advertising $'s. Brands don't want to be associated with controversy, period. They don't need it. So...

To keep Paula would mean to lose money, and therefore she was dropped. Can't fault the Network there.

The lady is a public figure, and public figures need to avoid (a) using and/or (b) admitting to using racial slurs. It's a fact of life. Not sure why people are so baffled over this....

It's not the Food Network's fault, as it all comes down to money.

So todays lesson is that if ever deposed and asked if you used a racial slur, lie and say no.

Btw, the food network has never said that the decision to not renew her contract was because she used the n word. They didn't give a reason, and they dont have to.

Yeah but.........she was a cash cow for the network and one of their most popular celebrities. Imagine the Heat getting rid of LeBron. While they might not give a reason, 2+2 always equals 4. They did it to be PC. They will lose viewers over their decision. Enough to drastically affect them? I have no idea. But they will take a hit and it will be a bigger hit than they would have taken by keeping her on the air.

That was the gamble that they made. I don't agree with you, i'll bet that if they suffer at all it will be temporary. I guess we all will just have to wait and see.

I didn't say it will be permanent. I used to have Food Network stored as one of my favorites on my remote a few years ago back when Emeril and Altom Brown were staples. The network has turned to crap in the last few years and I quit watching it. I honestly didn't even know that Deen was still on.

Her southern drawl was getting on my nerves, she's old and she's overweight..

I count 3 implied bias's here.

When will Bill Maher be fired for using insulting words, when will letterman be fired for using insulting words?

Why is it ok for comedians to use racial and sexual insults but terrible if a cooking host does it?

the double standard in this PC country sucks.

Again, it all comes down to $'s.

Comedians have a bit more leeway because it's generally accepted that what comes out of their mouth will be edgy and bordering on inappropriate (at times). Advertisers and viewers know what they're getting into beforehand.

Cooking show hosts, however, do not have that same leeway. Advertisers want a straightforward host with zero controversy. So when things got hot and inappropriate, they tend to dip and attach themselves to someone else to keep things simple.

Goto work tomorrow and share the word ******* with your co-workers and then report your findings here to the rest of us SANE people.

There isn't any evidence she said that about the wedding. She was being extorted for $1.2 million by a white woman who alledged Deen was a racist.

Deen admitted to saying the word two decades ago in a deposition.

And by the way, did Bill Maher lose his show? Did Robert Byrd lose his job after saying ****** on national television? Did Al Sharpton lose his for saying the word **** and inciting a riot that caused the deaths two people?

No, forgiveness is only for liberals.

Yes - especially if you're the host of a show that generally falls under the category of 'wholesome'.

Horse shit. She was being extorted by some vindictive and money hungry former employee and was honest in a deposition which is what people are supposed to do.

Never said that wasn't the case, but unfortunately she did admit to using racial slurs at some point in past, which was her decision ultimately (with regards to both using & admitting)..

Telling the truth might be the "right" thing to do, but sometimes it will cost you.

Did she say it at work?
What words are we allowed to say? Can i call somone a monkey or a water buffalo?
Since when did we have a right to not be offended?

Not at all the point I was trying to make. I have fired employees for less. She can say whatever she damn well pleases. Her employer should have the right to fire her for whatever reason they deem.

GRANDPA, I hear ya, but people make this kind of stuff out to be a huge deal, it's not. People need to grow up and get over the "I'm offended" mentality.....noone died with what she said, she didnt advocate anything like violence, or even racism.....hell she supported Obama, that's what I find hilarious, she supports a black guy for president, yet is a racist for saying some stupid stuff?

She admitted to racial slurs, race jokes, and porn in the workplace.

Is there anyone living today that at some point in their life has not used a racial slur???

be truthful, this is a blackmail story, nothing else. The sad thing is that her employer boutght into the story rather than check it out first. Deen should sue the food network.

Listen, I don't watch the Food Network. I don't understand the popularity of food shows. My wife on the other hands DVRs it constantly.

The Food Network can do anything they want. I am not saying that they should be forced to resign Deen.

there is no workplace in the world where those things have not happened. lets not be so blatantly naive, OK?

You know, in all the jobs I've held, I've never had my boss call me into the office to look at porn. Or have him show me porn on his phone. Never.

good for you. so what? that doesn't mean it did not happen in the next office.

Redfish - Sure, this might be a blackmail story.

But at the end of the day it was Paula who decided to use and admit to using racial slurs; therefore will no longer garner the sort of advertising dollars she used to in TV (as a wholesome, non-controversial cooking host). Cause and effect.

Advertisers don't want controversy, and by admitting to using racial slurs she created a controversy. At the end of the day she is in charge of her own career and should be cognizant of the words she uses in public and the things she admits to on record.

I don't dislike the woman any more or less than I did before (because I realize we all have our downfalls), but I certainly don't have any sympathy for her or her dimwitted mistakes as a public figure.

Are you suggesting that people shouldn't be responsible for the decisions they make?
