Official Behind IRS Scandal Met With Obama the Day Before

Strassel: The IRS Scandal Started at the Top - WSJ.com

SNIP-

The Obama call for scrutiny wasn't a mistake; it was the president's strategy—one pursued throughout 2012. The way to limit Romney money was to intimidate donors from giving. Donate, and the president would at best tie you to Big Oil or Wall Street, at worst put your name in bold, and flag you as "less than reputable" to everyone who worked for him: the IRS, the SEC, the Justice Department. The president didn't need a telephone; he had a megaphone.

The same threat was made to conservative groups that might dare play in the election. As early as January 2010, Mr. Obama would, in his state of the union address, cast aspersions on the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, claiming that it "reversed a century of law to open the floodgates for special interests" (read conservative groups).

The president derided "tea baggers." Vice President Joe Biden compared them to "terrorists." In more than a dozen speeches Mr. Obama raised the specter that these groups represented nefarious interests that were perverting elections. "Nobody knows who's paying for these ads," he warned. "We don't know where this money is coming from," he intoned.

In case the IRS missed his point, he raised the threat of illegality: "All around this country there are groups with harmless-sounding names like Americans for Prosperity, who are running millions of dollars of ads against Democratic candidates . . . And they don't have to say who exactly the Americans for Prosperity are. You don't know if it's a foreign-controlled corporation."

Short of directly asking federal agencies to investigate these groups, this is as close as it gets. Especially as top congressional Democrats were putting in their own

Explain it, please.

OK you admit you really are that stupid.

No. If you are trying to make a point. You should be able to explain it.

You guys can't. Or are afraid to because deep down inside, you know it is so illogical that when you actually write it out that it will make YOU look stupid.

Not really. But between the stupidity and the disingenuousness of the Left you will claim not to understand it, to scoff at it, etc. So no point really in saying that people take their orders from the top and when the CinC demonizes his enemies the people in the bureaucracy think they can advance their careers by following his lead. It's way too subtle and can't be proven with links on the internet so you all just dismiss it.

There goes that "blame Obama" conspiracy,.. Will the right wing machine apologize for spreading falsehoods?

A U.S. Internal Revenue Service manager, who described himself as a conservative Republican, told congressional investigators that he and a local colleague decided to give conservative groups the extra scrutiny that has prompted weeks of political controversy.

In an official interview transcript released on Sunday by Democratic Representative Elijah Cummings, the manager said he and an underling set aside "Tea Party" and "patriot" groups that had applied for tax-exempt status because the organizations appeared to pose a new precedent that could affect future IRS filings.

Democrats claim that the one and only guy involved in ordering the scrutiny of Tea Party groups describes himself as a conservative Republican.

You're going to have to forgive me for not being highly persuaded by this.

True. The Congressional Record would say anything that it's true. You know, like the Internet!

There are so many parts of this chain that have to be believed. Remember how Obama as a candidate repeatedly held W to the standard that he was personally responsible for the actions of every Federal employee as if he had done it himself?

However, that he's uninformed and uninvolved in almost every aspect of government and given incorrect information by his own staff and administration when he is involved is in their minds a trump card defense.

But Obama didn't KNOW. Ergo, he's not responsible at all. QED

He supplied the link. There is an IRS manager making those claims in the document provided. Now....you can run around like the idiot you are claiming that the document is fabricated by Democrats.......as if thereis a conspiracy that includes all of the democratic staff members on the oversight committee.

You see...that document is, in fact, entered into the congressional record. It was prepared by democratic staffers.......what it describes actually happened and the transcripts exist.

But YOU don't believe it.

Your ass beat again.

A little more than a week ago, Rep. Darrell Issa was sure the Cincinnati IRS’s enhanced scrutiny of Tea Party-related groups for tax-exempt status “was a problem that was coordinated, in all likelihood, right out of Washington headquarters.” No evidence has surfaced to support this claim. Now Issa is keeping the issue alive by withholding transcripts and attacking fellow Oversight Committee reps.

To validate what was admittedly a gut feeling, Issa and a bipartisan group of committee members conducted private interviews with Cincinnati IRS workers at a local office in charge of handling the 501(c)(4) applications. Suggestive excerpts of those interviews were released, and Issa promised CNN’s Candy Crowley two Sundays ago that “the whole transcript will be put out” eventually.

The top Democrat on Issa’s committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings, sees no problem with doing so right away. “I’ve said by Friday, if the Chairman doesn’t want to release them like he promised–like he promised--what we will do, we’ll do the redactions…and then submit them to the public, to the media, so you all can make your own judgment,” Cummings said on Hardball Monday. “There’s nothing in those transcripts that I’m afraid of.”

In response, Issa rejected the idea and took a few swipes at Cummings himself:

Cummings steps up push for full IRS transcripts

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) stepped up his push to force House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) to release full transcripts of interviews with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employees in the latest installment of the back-and-forth between the two senior lawmakers.

In a new letter, Cummings sent Issa the redacted transcript of one interview, and proposed allowing Issa to suggest other parts that could be blocked out from transcripts with IRS staffers involved in the targeting of conservative groups.

Cummings, the top Democrat on the Oversight panel, also said he wanted to give “appropriate deference” to Issa’s ability to conduct investigations as the committee’s chairman, and asked Issa for a response on any further redactions by Monday.

“I believe we should proceed in a responsible manner in order to uphold the integrity of the Committee, and I continue to hope that we can focus in a bipartisan manner on an approach that maximizes transparency and accuracy,” Cummings said.

Cummings’s letter is the latest salvo between the top two lawmakers on the Oversight panel, who have both released partial transcripts of interviews in recent weeks. Cummings said last weekend that he would release full transcripts this week, if Issa chose not to.

The two of you are a lot alike.

So assuming this is true, if W were President, you'd let him off the hook for someone below his administration who claims to be a liberal Democrat and that they ordered a policy you oppose. Got it.

As I said, you're a lot alike...

Stupid people are stupid.
We are supposed to believe that one mid level bureaucrat who amazingly describes himself as a conservative Republican was responsible for targeting all over the country, that no one else in the IRS knew about it, that Lois Lerner took the 5th because she hadn't done anything wrong and didnt know about this, that the interview is exactly as the uber partisan Dems on the committee laid out, that Cummings didnt backtrack on his statement that the mystery was solved, that there is no other evidence that might cast doubt on that interview, that we have interviewed everyone involved so have a complete picture.
And you claim I got my ass beat? Really now.

We already did when he went after Black churches and the NAACP, in 2004, among other Liberal groups.

What are you going to say when it comes out that these are official transcripts of interviews done by combined Congressional staff, as part of their jobs for each Congressional Member?

What are YOU going to say when it comes out that Cummings attempted to obstruct a congressional investigation on orders from the White House?

I already know the answer to that:
1) They all do it.
2) BOOSH!
3) Sept was a long time ago
4) At this point what difference does it make?

No because it makes perfect sense and not everything can be proven with links on the internet.

Since Cummings has now come out and said the investigation isn't over..I wonder if a bunch of people in this thread feel foolish?

I'm rolling on the floor they took some article with a UNAMED person and ran with it...

They're a mob; this is the sort of behavior you'll get from them.

They'll also chuck rocks and burn down buildings, if the right person tells them to. They're without honor, they're cowardly, and they're stupid. What more could a tyrant ask for ?
