A Wonderful Letter Ignored By An Editor - Why?

Legally? If you're from Mexico and don't already have family here and don't have an advanced degree, you can pretty much forget about it. It doesn't benefit business to allow low wage Mexican labor to come here legally, because then they can demand the minimum wage.

As if those from Mexico need ANY of that

He's acting as if there aren't any illegals living in America. I'm not sure where he is coming from here! Denial isn't a river!

he is pretending not to "understand the issue". as if Mexicans did not bring this hardship for the legal immigration process on themselves - by illegally crossing the border.

Thank you. So according to you the Mexican labor can't come here legally because they will be paid less? In other words, you'll get better pay as an illegal and you don't have to wait in line. Does that about sum it up, Ooh? Would you prefer to see the statue of liberty removed too?

Most can't come here legally because people in the U.S. hate Mexicans and will only allow so many in legally. We prefer to allow those who already have family ties here and/or fill jobs that are hard to fill (such as those with certain advanced degrees).

Its not a matter of just "standing in line".

The americans do not hate Mexican people. I don't know where you get that from. This isn't about hate. This is about right and wrong. Do you understand the difference when it comes to immigration?

It was a good letter, however it does not address the what. 11,000,000 already living here illegally?

Because the bill we're discussing is about how to deal with those who are already here. I wonder what the letter-writer's solution to that would be.

the biggest problem is that somehow the majority of the Americans got brainwashed by the politicians that there is a "need" to do something about it.
There is NONE.

There are ways for legalization even for illegals by current existing law. And people were doing it all the time until the politicians decided to bank on it. In the direct ( only a fool can think that "amnesty" is free of charge - it is going to be much more expensive than the current process) and indirect ( brainwashing the illegals that they "care" and the others do not) meaning.

If I have misunderstood you - accept my apology - but please give me an idea of just how many illegals you believe are currently living in the USA and off the american tax dollar if you don't mind. Any idea?

Living off the American tax dollar?

LOL.

Illegals working with someone else's social security number pay into the Social Security System and into the federal tax system - they don't get paid out. Jeez you hate Mexicans.

Poopoo is an idiot, and as a liberal "right vs. wrong" is subjective. The advancement of the liberal agenda is the goal, and the liberal agenda is making the US a turd world country.

And you. What's your solution.
First:
Enforce the laws we already have on the books.

Second:

Review exactly who we have granted asylum to. Review exactly how many Muslim terrorists with a record or Muslims with ties to terrorist organizations who have been naturalized as American citizens are here. Make sure that everyone on the list has not commited perjury by taking the oath to uphold the constitution and if they have deport them immediately. Same goes for any Muslim affiliated with a terrorist organization such as Muslim Brotherhood or group that associates with Terrorist groups like MB such as CAIR, ISNA, MSA, etc.

Third:
I would put a restriction on any immigrants coming from restricted nations. I would also suggest putting a quota on muslim immigration in its entirety. Unless you'd like to see what's happening in Europe happen here as well.

I'd make it a priority.

what a moronic statement.

can come only from "astrophysicist"

Nobody hates Mexicans any more than Chinese or Filipinos - you may want to check THEIR waiting times until the visa even for the relatives becomes available.

How?

That's because you're a bigot.

Nobody, huh? You've interviewed all 300 million Americans to make sure of this?

- you may want to check THEIR waiting times until the visa even for the relatives becomes available.

Waiting time? Its ZERO if you're born here.

The pregnant Chinese women have come here legally on tourist visas, and will remain until they give birth

How easy do you think it is for a Mexican pregnant woman to get a tourist visa into the U.S? lol

Pete is thinking. You're not, Ooh. That is obvious because if you were thinking you'd realize there are more illegal immigrants already here than there are on waiting lists back home and doing it the right way. You've got to work hard to remain this out of touch. I'd find out why that is if I were you.

ORANGE COUNTY (CALIFORNIA) NEWSPAPER-

New Immigrants
This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good points. For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple. It was not printed in the Orange County paper. Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help it will get published via cyberspace!

From: David LaBonte
My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the Orange County Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought alongside men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

You don't get a tourist visa just for walking across the border. My fuck you're ignorant.

It's also a personal issue in our family.

My wife and I spent $1000's to get her and my step daughter here legally.

And bed wetting imbeciles like poo poo bitch here seem to think it's perfectly acceptible to allow millions of people who may or may not be criminals, carry diseases such as TB, or may even be terrorists to walk in and not face the consequences.

Hey poo poo bitch, why don't you sneak across the mexican border? Find out what MEXICO does to illegal entrants you mindless asshole.

First, I seriously doubt the veracity as to the source of this chain email letter.

More importantly, it seems the letter writer ignored other facts about immigrants at the beginning of the 20th century. "She" completely ignored the fact European immigrants were vilified in the press and by nativists as diseased, immoral, vermin with more vitriol than we see today.

I have posted editorial cartoons from that era on this forum in other immigration topics. They are not pretty.

If an immigrant was not a WASP, they were criminal beasts that should be drowned at the pier. That was the prevailing attitude.

Now they are being glorified in this letter, making them out to be hardworking, decent people.

Hmmmm...

A hundred years from now, the descendants of today's immigrants will be painting their ancestors as the hardworking, deeply religious, decent people they truly are, too.
