If I'm honest, the only reasons I care what impact the GOP bill will have on Trump are:

• Because he mentioned what impact it will have on him. That he did means that what he says about it is expected/required to also be true and reasonably provable, objectively speaking, so. That standard applies to everything politicians say, not just what Trump says. The thing with Trump is that he refuses to release the information that would allow people, anyone, to confirm the veracity of his statements about his finances, and I suspect that he won't release his tax 2017 and 2018 returns so the electorate can determine whether the tax provision in the current GOP bill "cost him a fortune." (Nevermind that "a fortune" is a relative sum....$20K to some people is a fortune, and to others it's "chump change.")
• Because he and the GOP campaigned on and have promoted the tax bill as being for the middle class. Now I don't think that means the bill's provisions must exclusively benefit the middle class, but I think it means the bill's provisions need to preponderantly benefit the middle class.

I was just telling someone in another thread truth is how trump won the republican nomination. There were no wmds and bush did play a role in the 2007 Recession. Those are how he took out Jeb bush. The only Princeton professor who was elected president had only one thing going for him, he was a democrat. Fellow liberal professors did what they could to enhance a legacy for Woodrow Wilson but it was thin. The point is that elitist Princeton professors ain't the brightest bulbs in the academic marquee especially when they live in their own circles outside of the people they refer to as "the common citizen". President Trump has more in common with the "common citizen" than most elite tenured professors who don't have to worry about meeting a payroll or worrying about his retirement 401k which ironically increased in value since Trump was elected.
