Late last month, a federal judge ruled unconstitutional a 40-year-old total ban on handguns in the Northern Mariana Islands. In the ruling, the judge declared: “ecause the people of the Commonwealth are part of the American people who have overwhelmingly chosen handguns as their principal means of self-defense, the Second Amendment protects that right here as well.”

In response to the judge’s order, the territory’s governing body worked out another way to deny residents’ 2nd Amendment rights without constitutional interference. House and Senate lawmakers in the commonwealth quickly passed a harsh 57-page gun control bill which includes a massive $1,000 per pistol excise tax.

While the Mariana tax is outrageously high, it isn’t otherwise unique. In fact, it’s one of a growing trend of governmental schemes to raise the cost of guns and ammo with hefty taxes.

The Supreme Court has already ruled that taxes on fundamental Bill of Rights freedoms cannot be so high as to amount to a unreasonable restriction on that freedom. This is why Republicans should continue to block Obamas nomination.

What law are you talking about?

Guns are available to anyone who is willing to pay the black market price. Strengthening gun laws benefits no one but black market dealers who sell cheap but effective foreign imports. It is clear we've learned nothing from Alcohol Prohibition and the War on Drugs, both of which have been clearly counterproductive.

It is believed there are more than three billion guns in the hands of Americans, a significant percentage of which are unregistered. The value of a gun that is actually worth $50 increases in proportion to the severity of prohibitive laws. So how many of these unregistered guns will find their way to the black market -- in addition to the foreign imports that will arrive in the same shipments as raw opium, processed heroin, cocaine and marijuana. And like illegal drugs, for every shipment that is "intercepted" and held up like an heroic trophy, a dozen other shipments will get through.

Why do you think of Sanders as a communist? Do you know what communism is? Has Sanders expressed any intention to seize control of all commercial enterprises and all personal wealth, and to redistribute it equally?

Sanders is not a communist. He advocates certain socialist regulations which are needed to prevent the rise of unconstrained capitalism, which I assure you would make you very unhappy. And if you think socialism is the evil institution Rush Limbaugh has convinced you it is, wait a few more years until you start collecting Social Security and are eligible for Medicare and we can discuss it then.

Full-blown collectivist socialism is no good. Neither is full-blown capitalism, which enables a small percentage (One Percent) to hoard all the wealth by imposing poverty on the mass population. But a capitalist system which is controlled by sensible socialist regulation is the best system of all. And we had it going until Ronald Reagan, The Man from General Electric, managed to impose "trickle-down" economics, which in fact is siphon-up economics, which has resulted in deterioration of the middle class we are witnessing today.

Sanders is the best hope this Nation has. Hillary Clinton is nothing more or less than "Slick Willie" with a vagina. Another lying, self-serving phony.

I'm a socialist and I have no problem with the honest accumulation of wealth up to twenty million dollars. Beyond that the spectre of greed arises. I believe a twenty million dollar limit should be imposed on any individual accumulation of personal assets, cash or otherwise.

I'm a socialist and I have no problem with the honest accumulation of wealth up to twenty million dollars. Beyond that the spectre of greed arises. I believe a twenty million dollar limit should be imposed on any individual accumulation of personal assets, cash or otherwise.

My personal belief is my personal belief and nothing more. If you disagree with my belief that there should be a $20million limit to the personal accumulation of assets, you have a right to do so. But I suggest you give some thought to the prospect of such a limit.
