SHELLS, Dear, refer to artillery and mortar shells you bombard people with. They don't go in a magazine and you're not likely to find any on the street.

Except when you are talking about fully automatic weapons.
With rare exceptions, Americans don't own fully automatic weapons.
And you have to go through a lot of paper work.
The left would ban water guns if they knew they could get away with it...
Every weapon can be used for defense or offense. Only difference, we keep and bear arms for our defense from them.
Their ultimate goal is to change the definition and name every weapon an "assault weapon", so they can take it away. It start with semi-auto, later with hand guns, and we gonna end up like UK, where you need to show ID to buy butter knife.
I'm sure you can still get a butter knife without an ID at a gun show.

I know what the militia was. I've plowed through enough early town meeting minutes and records to know that all able bodied men between 16 and 40-ish were required to come to regular training sessions and bring their own guns. Everyone was actually required by law to own a firearm but it wasn't strictly enforced. There was no standing military and guns were not supplied except during the Revolutionary War when an army was formed. The militia was called up as needed during the French and Indian War, King Philips War, etc. The civilian militia fought both of the battles here during the Revolution--they marched from home CARRYING THEIR WEAPONS and engaged the British."A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."What part that is missing, makes it dishonest? We do not have a similar situation now. We have a standing army (which Washington was deathly afraid of) with plenty of guns.

On the paper, constitutionally, we did. Article 1. Section 8, Clause 12.
As soon Congress got power to raise and support armies, we officially had capability to have it. Until Army was created by the Congress, the role of the Army was done by militia under the Establishment of the Troops Act.
