"The unemployment rate among black teens was more than six times higher than the national average, and nearly double the overall teen unemployment rate last month, according to data released Friday from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

According to the BLS, the unemployment rate among black teens (ages 16-19) was 31.5 percent in September, up 0.2 percentage points over August’s unemployment rate. Nationally the teen (ages 16-19) unemployment rate for the month of September was 16.3 percent, down from the previous month’s 16.9 percent.

The national unemployment rate by comparison was 5.1 percent.

The black unemployment rate, meanwhile, remained much higher than the national average at 9.2 percent, down from August’s 9.5 percent.

The relatively poor jobs figures among black Americans come amid a rough September jobs report which had the economy adding just 142,00 jobs and the labor force participation rate hitting its lowest level since 1977, with a record 94.6 million Americans not working."

BLACKS SHOULDN'T BE ASKING LIBERALS 'WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?" THEY SHOULD BE ASKING "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME SINCE CIVIL RIGHTS PASSED"?!

Labor Force Participation Improves Slightly; 94,446,000 Americans Not in Labor Force
December 4, 2015 | The number of Americans not in the labor force last month totaled 94,446,000--a slight improvement from the 94,513,000 not in the labor force in October--and the labor force participation rate increased a tenth of a point, with 62.5 percent of the civilian noninstitutional population either holding a job or actively seeking one.
(The labor force participation rate of 62.4 percent in September and October was the lowest in 38 years.) The Bureau of Labor Statistics says economy added 211,000 jobs in November, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.0 percent. In November, according to the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics, the nation’s civilian noninstitutional population, consisting of all people 16 or older who were not in the military or an institution, reached 251,747,000. Of those, 157,301,000 participated in the labor force by either holding a job or actively seeking one.

The 157,301,000 who participated in the labor force equaled only 62.5 percent of the 251,747,000 civilian noninstitutional population. The last time the labor force participation was as low as 62.5 percent was in October 1977. As Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen has explained it, the drop in the labor force participation rate since 2008 can be attributed to four factors: a greater number of retiring Baby Boomers as well as an increase in the disability rolls, an increase in school enrollments and general "worker discouragement."

"Disability applications and educational enrollments typically are affected by cyclical factors, and existing evidence suggests that the elevated levels of both may partly reflect perceptions of poor job prospects," Yellen said in a speech last year. "Moreover, the rapid pace of retirements over the past few years might reflect some degree of pull-forward of future retirements in the face of a weak labor market."

9.4%: Black Unemployment More Than Double White Unemployment
December 4, 2015 | Data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show that the unemployment rate for blacks in November was more than double the rate for whites, and was also much higher than Asian and Latino unemployment.
The rate of white unemployment nationwide in November was 4.3%, slightly down from the 4.4% in October. (That’s seasonally adjusted, workers age 16 and over.) However, the rate of unemployment for black workers ages 16 and older was 9.4% in November, up from the 9.2% rate in October.

9.4% is more than double 4.3%. For Asian workers 16 years and over, the rate of unemployment in November was 3.9%, slightly up from 3.5% in October, but still lower than white unemployment and far lower than black unemployment.

For Hispanic or Latino workers age 16 and over, the unemployment rate in November was 6.4%, which is slightly higher than the 6.3% in October, and it is lower than the black unemployment rate. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, white Americans make up 77.4% of the population; blacks, 13.2%; Asian, 5.4%; and Hispanic or Latino, 17.4%.
