Trump's first official act as president should have been to ask for an independent special prosecutor. Big Mistake! Having the FBI Director lead an investigation of the Trump administration which includes himself and his boss is gross incompetence.

Trump just tweeted out to Comey: "you had better NOT have any taped conversations of our private conversations"--LOL Trump is implicating himself in this statement that he is the one that lied, not Comey.

Whenever an investigation is started that may involve the president, his administration or colleagues it should be turned over to an independent special prosecutor. If the investigation shows that neither Trump nor his people did anything wrong, the public is just going to assume Trump replaced Comey with someone that would produce the desired results.

On the off chance they do exist and confirm Trump’s version of events rather than Comey’s they would probably land Trump in even more trouble since they would be taped evidence of the President seeking assurances of safety from an investigation and one of nation’s top law enforcement officers offering such assurances. That would be very bad for Comey but even worse for Trump. After all, Comey doesn’t have a job to lose. It’s purely a reputational matter for him now.
