That must be why James Madison, in his own lifetime, wanted to ban the practice of WTA. He could see where it was going and that was two centuries ago.

It depresses turnout, it nullifies tens of millions of votes, it makes us all dependent on polls to find out whether it's even worth going out on election day, it perpetuates and protects the entrenched Duopoly, and it presents a scheme where a fringe wacko like a Strom Thurmond can siphon off enough EVs to deny anybody a majority of EVs, thereby sending the entire election into the House of Reps where anything can happen, thereby nullifying the entire election. There's nothing to be gained in any of that and much lost.
