And the above sentiment captures one of the defining differences I think I see between the Republican party and the Democrats.

I mean by that, in my perception the Democrats attempt to make their tent bigger, include more people, expand their diversity and their base.
Whereas the Republicans spend an awful lot of time and energy hunting the imagined heretics within their ranks.
In short, they view their fellow Republicans as not Republican enough....and attempt to push people out of their tent.

Speaking of MTG, I just saw a fascinating New Scientist article about how neanderthal's anatomy was tuned to speech for communication. It is here:

Virtual reconstructions of Neanderthal ears show that our extinct cousins had the same physical capacity for hearing as modern humans, and so could probably also make the same sounds we can – although whether they actually spoke a language is still unknown

I sure hope so. Other so called leaders that we thought we could rely on have failed us. And BTW, shutting down the government would be a good thing. It means they can't spend money.
