Once AGAIN statues and monuments are **NOT** how we record history, never have been, never will be, so this position is blatantly dishonest.
Its how every nation on the planet brings to light their history...what do you suggest?...we hide it from future generations?...why?...because it will supposedly make your enemies mad?....and that will make you feel good somehow?...do you know why Germany has yet to tear down Auschwitz?...so they never make that mistake again.....this is why we call you people snowflakes....you can't stand sunlight....

Auschwitz is not there to honor those who served.

Statues and monuments are how we GLORIFY people and events. And that's what they're there for, public propaganda transmitters, the technology of the time, to transmit bullshit propaganda about the "noble" cause of slavery, racism and the Klan, deliberately placed in public squares and high traffic areas to send the unmistakable message of "who's in charge here".

THAT is why stuff like this is taken down. Using the public land to send that kind of message is not at all what the public who OWNS that land endorses. It's THEIR land.

So NO, you're not "defending American history" at all. You're defending a bullshit propaganda system that even the entity who put them up --- the UDC --- doesn't stand behind any more.

That plaque the same UDC put up in 1917 commemorating the birthplace of the Klan back in post 49 --- again, the only entity to protest when that plaque was turned around backwards, WAS THE KLAN ITSELF. That's the side you're "defending".

You can't dispute the point. That's why you edited it down to one sentence. Can't handle it.

Auschwitz is an entire plot of land, not a statue. But speaking of Germany, do you think Germans actually don't know who Adolf Hitler was? And yet --- where are his statues? How can they possibly know the Hitler history without ..... statues?

FUCK outta here.
Very weak POGO....

What's "weak" is your excising entire paragraphs because you wish they weren't there.

I put them back. AGAIN. And every time you cut them out they'll return, bigger and bolder.

FUCK outta here, wimp.

Wait a minuet...to you they are not to be honored...but the last time I checked this is a free nation...there were two sides in the civil war pal...and some of the descendants have a differing view than you....that's called freedom of thought and expression....do you really want to toss that out?...

There does seem to be two sides. Your side is again losing. Obviously you are still free to say whatever dumb things you want to.

Do you want to do away with freedom of expression?....its a yes or no question....

And what do you call hijacking public spaces to push your racist propaganda? Feel free to use a bold font.

What kind of rhetorical fascist purports to speak for the town, or state, or community, without that town or state or community's consent?

Howzat work?

Hm?

Oh be sure to cut this part out of the post so you can pretend it isn't there and go :lalala:

Statues are expressions of honor. I do not want people to have to walk past an honor to someone that fought to keep their ancestors in slavery as they go pay their taxes.

You can fly your flag off your own porch all you want.

Zackly. What he's NOT free to do is put it in the mouth of the community by using the town's courthouse as his transmitter.

Somehow that doesn't seem to sink in.

Hey Ramblenuts, how 'bout if I take over your USMB account for the afternoon? I'd like to correct your record on a few things.

Same thing.

That same flag fought to free his ancestors.

So "they" are OK with the USA having slavery for 89 years, but not OK with the Confederacy having slavery for 4 years? Not good at math?

The Confederacy didn't just have slavery for 4 years.

The Confederate States of America only existed for 4 years. All other slavery in the USA was OK under USA laws. Supported by the US Congress and the US Supreme Court.

No it wasn't. You arent much on history.

Much to the contrary. I teach history, and morals, and virtue, to people from the North. It is very frustrating work.
I am sure trying push all of that lost cause confederate revisionist history is definitely frustrating...but I am sure the Daughters of The Confederacy would be proud....

Monuments to the "heroes" of the Confederacy belong in dedicated facilities, privately funded, and NOT in state courthouses and such. It is not a "technicality" that all of such "heroes" were traitors to the United States.

If you want to make the arguments that not all of them were slave-owners, or secession was a constitutional act, or whatever...again, do it in those dedicated, privately funded facilities. No taxpayer funding for traitors. Period. Some of the taxpayers are descendants of slaves, after all.
They were not traitors as they fought in the name of their states.
It’s only appropriate that those states would honor them for that reason.

The Confederate states no longer exist. They lost.

Every one of the states who were temporarily a part of the confederacy do exist. Are you trying to remove that from history, too?

So why don't we honor the people who American loyalists in New England -- they were fighting in the name of "their states" too...the governor of Massachusetts was a loyalist -- I don't recall any statues being erected in his honor...do you know why?? Because he waged war and lost against the side who went on to become the "UNITED STATES"

The confederates waged war and lost against the side that continued to be called "THE UNITED STATES" -- the reason these statues were erected in the first place had more to do with racism and white supremacy than honoring the side who lost

You did nothing to dispute what I said. What the Confederate soldier fought for, no longer exists.
