That same flag fought to free his ancestors.

So "they" are OK with the USA having slavery for 89 years, but not OK with the Confederacy having slavery for 4 years? Not good at math?

The Confederacy didn't just have slavery for 4 years.
You’re right. They only had it illegally for 3.5 years.

Not true either.
Right again. It was only 2.3 years. Emancipation January 1, 1863. Confederacy dissolved April, 1865.

Slavery had been illegal in northern states for years.

Slavery.

Slavery was legal in the USA for 89 years. It was left up to each state what they did about abolishing slavery. Several Union States, as already mentioned here, still had slavery during the Civil War, and when all the Confederate slaves were free... the USA still had slavery.

What’s wrong with the statue? Your racism?

You can't expect a black man to go to a court house to pay his taxes and have to walk past a statue to someone that fought to keep his ancestors a slave.

You might have a point there except everyone including yourself knows its not really about that statue. Next its the current U.S. flag, the pledge of allegiance, the national anthem, other symbols like George Washington and Jefferson will be next, and pretty much everything that symbolizes patriotism for this country, all because there is a radical faction within The democrat party that believes America symbolizes injustice and it all needs to come down. Just start with the confederate statues first, thats the easy one.... then move on down the line.
Look in the communist playbook on how to take down a nation from within and its all there. The people who want to destroy you and your way of life always show up with a smile and talk about fairness.

If you want to argue it won't end there, argue it but as far as this issue goes, you can not expect a man to go to the courthouse to pay his taxes and walk past a statue to a man that fought to keep his ancestors in slavery.

Really? he cant walk past the statue of a man he defeated? or has the statue defeated the man?
He's not paying taxes to the Confederacy. If I was a black man I think I would see it as a monument to freedom, not slavery. I would be looking into the face of the man who was defeated by the Union and African Americans as well. I think we are all just being taught to be weak now and to feel threatened instead of being taught to be strong and to be victorious. Better to build things up instead of tearing things down......
I would counter and say I want to have a monument to black soldiers in the Union army also right there on the courthouse steps, but I dont have a need as a grown man to tear down someone elses monument.

If you want to go there, you don't place statues to the losers.

Well, whatever. I'm from California. We don't have many confederate Statues here that I'm aware of. That was just my thoughts on it. I'm sure North Carolina will figure it out. The statue was there since 1908 so they will probably put it somewhere else. Its legit that someone may be bothered, but its my feeling that it would be a better world in general if we were looking to build things up instead of looking for what offends us and needs to be taken down.
Why don't we file a protest against the manufacturers of Dixi cups? thats quite a symbol of a racist past isnt it? wish I was in the Land of Dixi? If you look hard enough you can find all sorts of things to be hurt about and most of the time there wasn't any offense meant.

So the truth is...The USA had slavery long before there ever was a Confederacy. And after the Confederacy was defeated and the Union won the war, the Union (USA) still had slavery. But it's the Confederate statues that represent racism and slavery? Ignorance is bliss...

You need to expound. Slavery was moot in the north.

Those were border states. Maryland was a southern state but was made part of the Union because of its geographic proximity to DC. The Mason Dixon line is the northern border of Maryland with PA.
Slavery didn’t become essentially and effectively illegal until the end of the war.

You're the one defending the statue of a man who fought to literally keep people in chains, but you're calling him the fascist?
I'm not defending any statue...I'm defending American history from being deleted by a bunch of spoiled children that think it would be a good slap in the face of the people they dislike to remove the damn thing...take the time to learn their motive...its payback in their eyes...nothing more....just like butt hurt spoiled children...like 2 year old's...

How is it not a slap in the face to have to go to the courthouse to pay your taxes and it's honoring someone that fought to keep your ancestors a slave?

Once AGAIN statues and monuments are **NOT** how we record history, never have been, never will be, so this position is blatantly dishonest.

Statues and monuments are how we GLORIFY people and events. And that's what they're there for, public propaganda transmitters, the technology of the time, to transmit bullshit propaganda about the "noble" cause of slavery, racism and the Klan, deliberately placed in public squares and high traffic areas to send the unmistakable message of "who's in charge here".

THAT is why stuff like this is taken down. Using the public land to send that kind of message is not at all what the public who OWNS that land endorses. It's THEIR land.

So NO, you're not "defending American history" at all. You're defending a bullshit propaganda system that even the entity who put them up --- the UDC --- doesn't stand behind any more.

That plaque the same UDC put up in 1917 commemorating the birthplace of the Klan back in post 49 --- again, the only entity to protest when that plaque was turned around backwards, WAS THE KLAN ITSELF. That's the side you're "defending".

Its how every nation on the planet brings to light their history...what do you suggest?...we hide it from future generations?...why?...because it will supposedly make your enemies mad?....and that will make you feel good somehow?...do you know why Germany has yet to tear down Auschwitz?...so they never make that mistake again.....this is why we call you people snowflakes....you can't stand sunlight....

Monuments to the "heroes" of the Confederacy belong in dedicated facilities, privately funded, and NOT in state courthouses and such. It is not a "technicality" that all of such "heroes" were traitors to the United States.

If you want to make the arguments that not all of them were slave-owners, or secession was a constitutional act, or whatever...again, do it in those dedicated, privately funded facilities. No taxpayer funding for traitors. Period. Some of the taxpayers are descendants of slaves, after all.

You can't dispute the point. That's why you edited it down to one sentence. Can't handle it.

Auschwitz is an entire plot of land, not a statue. But speaking of Germany, do you think Germans actually don't know who Adolf Hitler was? And yet --- where are his statues? How can they possibly know the Hitler history without ..... statues?

FUCK outta here.

BINGO. It would be like if that Klan museum in Laurens South Carolina, was funded by the town, or the state, or the Fed.
