Disney/Marvel better hope not, as they've tripled down on it with their plan to replace Ironman with a 15-year old black girl, and recast Thor as a woman as well (described as "the one and only Thor" - "not She-Thor...not Lady Thor...not Thorita. This is THOR!"). Also, Brie Larson/Captain Marvel is slated to be the leader of the Avengers for the next 5 movies (including the current Captain Marvel origin story), which will presumably incorporate the new female Ironman and Thor characters, since RDJ and Chris Helmsworth are said to be done after the next movie, Avengers Endgame.
Marvel has always been very Progressive with its storylines and characters. In the last ten years they’ve gone over the top... and have faces backlash on more than one occasion.
If these changes are truly implemented in the MCU, it will make me far less likely to put money in the pockets of Marvel/Disney.
Oh they're happening. Run a search to confirm independently and you'll see - there are numerous articles describing Marvel's forthcoming transition of these characters (passing the torch, if you will, to new female versions of the existing Ironman and Thor characters rather than bringing existing female characters into the MCU, or even creating new ones). There is an obvious reason for this -- RDJ and Helmsworth are retiring their roles, and it's not fashionable to cast white males as masculine superheroes. It promotes and perpetuates something that is being tossed about as a societal epidemic infecting American culture -- toxic masculinity among white male youth. As white males themselves, the execs and writers of Disney/Marvel are convinced that white male fans (the long time base of Marvel comics) will come around to this new direction and embrace the female re-casts, and from a financial outlook perspective, they are thrilled about the idea of attracting a whole new audience of young females to the movies.
