Darn those gun laws.

Well of course the US is helpless in the face of its mass shootings. Helpless.

Not really.
We know the causes of crime, like poverty, injustice, lack of opportunity, etc.
With the US, likely the most important things are lack of health care and the War on Drugs.

Wow, what a tragedy-
Police said at a news conference late Sunday afternoon that they found "several" casualties inside and outside a residence, but no suspect.

Police secured the area and began a search that led to multiple sites in the area, including structures on fire. They eventually pursued the suspect across several Nova Scotia communities. The province's police watchdog, the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), named the village of Shubenacadie as the site of a "serious criminal event."

Crimes were scattered over at least 50 kilometres, police said. The suspect used his gun during the rampage, but may have used "other methods" as well, said RCMP Chief Supt. Chris Leather.

Hmmmm. I mention how helpless the US is in the face of mass shootings and you deflect to crime. Any particular reason?

That wasn't a deflection a large number of gun deaths in America are due to criminal activity.
You fix the criminal system you'll fix the gun death problem

Mass shootings are not the same as criminal activity. The two are only conflated by those who can't argue the US is not helpless in the face of mass shootings.

A mass shooting is a crime.
Humans are naturally extremely social animals.
We have empathy in our DNA, or else primates would never have survived coming down out of the trees, without fangs, claws, speed, or armor.
Crimes like this are caused by conditions contrary to our inherent instincts.
Fix that and the crimes, like mass shootings, go away.
So not only are we not at all helpless, but clearly our own corrupt social institutions are the causes.

About 80% of gun deaths can likely be attributed to the War on Drugs.
Not only has the War on Drugs greatly enticed crime by raising drug profits, but has forced a huge increase in illegal gun trafficing, since dealers can't use banks or police to protect their cash. Add turf wars onto that, and you can easily see how our own laws are the main causes.

All crime is contrary to human nature and irrational for an extremely social species like primates. As Angela Davis wrote books about, all crime is political. End injustice, lack of opportunity, education, access to capital, jobs, health care, etc., and crime disappears.

The difference with mass shootings is that they do not even have the simple rational of being for profit, and instead are suicidal, so are just more extreme cases of the same anti social reaction.
But it is still just a reaction,
The causes are still what was done to the people before hand, in order for them to get to that point. After all, clearly a mass murder/suicide can not possibly be normal. It is just a symptom, not the disease. And society has to be the disease, because it is too widespread, increasing, and without any other possible motive.

There has been a Mass shooting in Canada, of all places. Unfortunately killing 16 people. How are those gun laws working?

16 Killed in Mass Shooting Rampage in Rural Nova Scotia Town
Canada needs to ban AR15s.

.

Why ban AR-15s?
First of all, one can easily kill as many or more, much faster, with a pump shotgun, a pair of pistols, or just about any small caliber rifle.
The only reason there are about 20 million AR-15s owned in the US, is because they are inexpensive and everyone get familiar with the same internal operation from the military M-4.
But they are almost never used in crime in the US or Canada, so then what would be the point of making them illegal?
People intent on mass murder are not going to be stopped by the weapon being illegal.

Mass shootings aren't criminal? I guess you need to notify the FBI and tell them you don't think they are criminal.

There was a war on Alcohol back in the early 20th century. Look where that got us.
Path to gun control.

I think you missed my sarcasm.

Canada already banned the AR15, and they just had their worst shooting ever.
