DC's Minimum Wage Really Does Cost Jobs At Walmart

Amazon, Kroger, Aldi, Dollar Tree, Costco, Target & Dollar General have all beaten Walmart at the retail business.

Fail? Aldi has extremely limited number of items. There are a few that are cheaper, and of the same quality, most are not. Kroger, most definitely has not beaten Walmart at price, that's for sure. And often they don't have the food stuffs I'm looking for either.

Amazon used to have the best prices possible for the things they had... but lately I've found the stuff I want cheaper elsewhere.

I've never been to the Dollar Tree or Target, or Dollar General, but you are absolutely bonkers if you think everyone has beaten Walmart. If they had, no one would go there. Walmart is packed CONSTANTLY. There's ALWAYS people at the Walmart, morning noon and night.

You people..... just talk of out of your butt, and think no one will notice the methane.

Dear Idiot! - The stores I mentioned have lower prices & more than triple Walmart's growth rate. They have taken market share from Walmart. Their stores do not all have the marque name like Ruler Foods is Kroger & Family Dollar is Dollar Tree. They beat Walmart's prices hands down! Even Whole Foods has high growth & taking market share.

Its time to limit a ceo's and the boards ability to collect golden shoots to maybe 5% of the companies yearly profit. Its time to demand that the workers/producers are paid for their work.

I am so fucking sick of you loserterians and your dreams of having oral sex with the super rich fucking over the workers.

Thank you for your input, Comrade!

Keep on keeping on.......you will be taken down. It's not fair nor feasible for the most powerful country in the world to accommodate it's rich people while starving it's less fortunate. This bullshit started with Ronald Reagan's tax cuts for the wealthy and when George W. Bush cut them two more times it put average Americans into the jaws of death.

One of every four workers in this country is earning less than the determined poverty level. If you think that's anything close to fair you've got your right wing head up your ignorant ass.

Starving? Have you seen our obese poor people in America? LOL!

Yeah, those ridiculous poverty numbers sure are reliable. Give me a break.

Less money means poorer food choices available and more likelihood of obesity.

Less money means poorer food choices available and more likelihood of obesity.

The only solution is to keep costs high by driving out WalMart, obviously.

So in your world, poor people not having jobs, because you wiped out the corporations that employ people like Walmart, will some how reverse your myths?

My concept seemed to work well in the 90's for Bill Clinton.....'course you wouldn't want to acknowledge that because the first thing he did when he took office was raised taxes. Republicans stand for cutting taxes, a bigger military and god knows what else.....that's it, GOD!!

The most ignorant or uncaring person I've known in my 81 years on this planet was Ronald Reagan. He slashed tax rates to pre depression levels for the richest people in the country and never cut his spending a goddam dime. He quadrupled the national debt. In other words he funneled trillions of borrowed dollars(from foreign banks) into the pockets of the richest people in the country in the form of tax cuts.

Dear Idiot! - The stores I mentioned do not have lower prices, I've been to them, and the exact same product at Walmart is a lower price. Yes some have a higher growth rate. But that does not automatically mean anything. Wages in China are rising faster than in the US. A ton faster. Yeah, because when you start at the average wage of $2 a day, and you increase it a MASSIVE 10 fold, to $2 an hour.... that's WAY faster. It's still $2 an hour. Not exactly an earth shattering amount.

And you think you are going to compare Walmart.... to what? Dollar Tree? Family Dollar? Kroger? Seriously?

Latest figures 2015
Walmart Net Sales $482 BILLION

Dollar Tree $8.6 Billion
Family Dollar $10 Billion
Kroger $110 Billion
Aldi $30 Billion
Target $73 Billion
Costco $116 Billion

Total of all of these, $347 Billion. Walmart significantly out does all of these stores that are "so much better", COMBINED.

And you thinks it's surprising... even news worthy that .... what... Dollar Tree is growing faster? Dollar Tree could DOUBLE it's size by next year, and it would be no more significant than a tick on an elephant.

Seriously... you people....

Amazing what ending a couple of hot Republican wars will do for spending:

Slowest_spending_growth_in_decades.jpg

Debt is caused by spending. Not cutting taxes. The amount of money collected by the government under Reagan, and Bush, nearly doubled in both cases. So clearly the cutting of taxes, isn't what caused debt.

What did cause debt was over spending. Unlike the military which is a primary duty of the Federal government, welfare, food stamps, medicare and medicaid are not.

Moreover, blaming the military spending when cutting the military to zero, would still have had us in deficit, is illogical... but that's what you people on the left always are. Illogical.

Lastly, if you look at the budget, all during the Reagan years, he proposed lower budgets, and the Congress, which was democrat, over spent Reagans budget.

Equally during the Clinton years, the Republicans in Congress under cut the Clinton budget. If you look the budgets that Clinton proposed, he never once even attempted to cut the deficit. If not for the Republicans during the 90s, the budget would never have come close to being balanced. It was the Republicans that pushed welfare reform. Not Clinton. It was the Republicans that cut subsidies and grants. Not Clinton.

Similarly, Bush Jr for all his failures, after raising spending for the neccessary and good work of dealing with Saddam and Bin Laden, cut the deficit every single year until 2007 where the budget deficit was only $161 Billion. If not for the left-wing sub-prime mortgage disaster (because everyone should own a home, even if they can't afford it), it would have been almost balanced by the time he left office. And since he left office, it's been in the Trillions.

So while you can blather and rave around, the facts really are not on your side at all.

Fewer people being taught how to go on Medicaid and Food Stamps...Sounds good to me.

What the fuck you talking about? The stores they were going to open up was around 450 jobs. Where their is no FUCKING jobs.

The three stores that opened up in the D.C. area had like 5,000 applicants for only 300 jobs if memory serves me correctly.

In case you were unaware, Walmart instructs their low wage employees how to apply for Medicaid and Food Stamps.
No Walmart jobs = no extra Middle Class Tax Payer money going to support low wage Walmart employees.
Smaller stores with less leeching government power will fill the gap.

In case you are unaware no small business filled that gap in D.C. you idiot.

Than tough. I don't need a Walmart in my area teaching people how to suck up more of my tax money.

This is the sort of post one expects from MSNBC viewers.

The rest of the story:

"So, yes, the staff at WalMart do get that $6.2 billion in aid (let’s not quibble about the way they’ve calculated the figure). But now we’ve got to try and work out whether it’s a subsidy to WalMart or not? In order to do this think of if WalMart did not exist. Would those people still be getting $6.2 billion in aid? They would be, as the unemployed, getting Medicaid, school lunches, breakfast, Section 8 vouchers and so on. So, it’s not a subsidy to WalMart at all as the existence or not of WalMart doesn’t change the amount paid.
Actually, we can go further, these people would be getting more taxpayer money if WalMart didn’t exist. So the existence of WalMart reduces, not increases the amount of taxpayer money that has to be spent.

.... the EITC. This is a welfare payment that you only get if you are in work and your wages are low. This is indeed a subsidy to the employers. Indeed, it’s designed that way, to increase the wages that are received by the workers at no cost to the employer. Precisely to increase the incentive to go to work rather than just stay at home: that is, to overcome the effects of that rise in the reservation wage from the existence of the welfare system. Thanks started looking for that info earlier, for some reason the liberal mind can not comprehend that.

Debt is caused by spending. Not cutting taxes

When a goverment funds a lot of long term spending obligations with taxes, and that tax revenue stream is cut, what do you think happens to debt with less money to pay for it?

You are assuming that they must spend. They don't have to spend. I have lost my job dozens of times. You know how the normal intelligent people of this plant react when their income is cut? They cut spending.

You don't go buy a car, and sign a $50,000 note... and then go to your boss where you work and say...."Oh hey I bought a car, so you have to pay me more".

Can I mow your lawn, and show up the next week with the lawn mower "Hey Wilbur..... I bought a Camero, so you need to pay me $100 bucks a mow".

The answer to your question is.... they shouldn't be funding long term obligations. You don't know how the economy is going to do next year. You don't know if the market is going to boom or bust. If you work at a company that has uncertainty, and you don't know if your going to be laid off next year..... if you then buy a $200K house, and show up at work "Hey you have to keep paying me, I bought a house!"

That would make you a moron.

Similarly, if you are a democrap, and you sign a bunch of long term obligations, when you already have a national debt of $17 Trillion dollars..... YOU ARE A MORON.

CUT THE SPENDING. Stop being an idiot.

Walmart puts other retailers out of business.

So does high crime in the inner city.
Thank God there's no crime in Suburban areas.

Not where I live. Maybe YOU should move?

I'm happy where I am because Walmart is being kept out of MANY areas.
Tax payers here do WANT to see local store keepers go broke in favor of a corporate entity.

Within 20 miles in any direction, I can get to more than a dozen Walmart stores whether it be a Market, Sam's or a Superstore.
You have my sympathies.

I personally prefer Costco...
Aluminum pans of superior quality 30 lasagna panes for $5.95.
Professional Size Aluminum foil for $11.00 lasts for months.
Top quality Paper plates, cups...great prices and last for months.

Yeah, big box stores, there is the ticket, screw the small businesses in the area.

You mean the fact that I will ONLY...
fill up my tank by the neighborhood gas station
get my hair cut at the local barber
buy my groceries at the SAME market
go to the same Cleaners, and
am loyal to my local small stores that DON'T provide the 8 items I get at Costco?

No, I'm not a pig Conservative like you who doesn't give a sh!t that America's being destroyed piece by piece as long as MY Portfolio swells.
And yes, I have read enough of your postings to know where you're coming from.

All I know is you know nothing about me. What is my portfolio? Do you know what I do or do not invest in? Please tell me what I believe in or what I care and don't care about.

I don't know if you are a pig conservative or a pig liberal, I think you are an idiot asshole that knows nothing and you prove it every post.

Just like you son, I give a shit about me. If you say otherwise, you're either trying to fool yourself, a liar, or some combination of both.

Where there's no potential, I don't give a darn.

If it were up to people like Indeependent, you'd invest in what the government told you to. Wait, that's what they want now with things like free college tuition and increased minimum wage.

And that's how stupid you are because you're completely wrong.
Like a good Ideologue, you see in Black & White.

The US has potential, not that Conservatives give a crap.
Republicans do give a crap.

By Republicans do you mean those willing to bend over and take one from the other side in order to come to some consensus? That's what your postings sound like. I don't do consensus as it is the absence of leadership. With consensus, stuff gets done that makes everyone feel good but it's stuff that no one really wants.

I support what I support because in the end, that's what you're going to do. The difference is when I do it, it's considered wrong but when others do the same thing, meaning Liberals, it's OK to them.

Conservatives want open access to unlimited cheap labor and zero regulations.
Well, the more people are under and unemployed the more Representatives you will get who will eat your heart out.
