Republicans have sent several individual bills like funding the National Institutes of Health to continue funding cancer research for children, as well as other bills. But Democrats being the party of no compromise have rejected every bill. Democrats idea of compromise is they get everything, Republicans and America get nothing. And Obama has repeatedly said he won't negotiate. It's obvious Democrats are shutting down the government. All past presidents negotiated.
There was a leader known as Joseph Stalin who wouldn't negotiate with the Ukranians, and the Ukranians suffered tragically. Amazing the similarities between Obama, today's Democrats and the Stalin regime.

But even beyond that is where the real damage to them lies. They made americans aware that an all democratic controlled congress would lead to a drastic change in our constitutional rights. the alienated a significant number of their former supporters. Liberals and democrats own guns too. and many will not vote democrat after what they saw the democrats try to do to their rights. They galvanized a force against them. the pro gun crowd is now solidified and have extremely strong lobbies to back them up. the pro gun crowd is growing rapidly. 20,000,000 new requests for permits last year. this is not more gun nuts buying more guns. these are new gun owners.
the democrats realize they will make no gains in the house and will probably lose many seats in the senate in 2014. So what do they do? the yneed to try to turn the tide against the republicans and they are using the shut down to attempt to do that. but they are making anothe very critical misread of the american public again. american do not want a rapidly growing deficit to continue. it's already out of control. and the democrats are putting in place a massive entitlement program that will consume 1/6 the GDP and we can not afford. right now, many low level income americans think of it as free healthcare. and to many, the premiums will be or at least partially subsidized. but they will still have to pay to utilize it. and the disillusionment will set in. when americans see the deficit growing faster then projected because this program will cost far more then expected, they are going to demand less spending. The republicans can say, well we tried, but the democrats refused to listen.
