DeSantis signs controversial bill banning kids under 14 from opening social media accounts

No

We dont close XXX stores

But they arent open to children and neither should the internet be
Why would you equate porn shops to the internet? That makes no sense.

It’s just so striking how conservatives have been so outraged the government could even ask social media companies to close someone’s account but also are so totally okay with kicking kids off the internet until they’re 18.

The stark difference is how they demand unfettered access to something for themselves and then take it away from someone else.

That's what they said about TV.
You can’t take a TV with you everywhere you go. People don’t use the TV as their main portal to the world. You can’t do all of your communication via the TV. The TV isn’t feeding you content. Also too much TV is terrible for a child. If a 7 y/o is spending 8-10 hours a day in front of a TV that’s not healthy either.

Do you have any idea what percentage of the internet is dedicated to porn?

Adults vs children

Limit access because one side doesn't like what the other side is saying politically vs limit access because it's mentally and physically bad for a minor and we don't typically let minor do things that we KNOW are destructive to their brains and bodies.

Other than that you' re right it's exactly the same.....

I think you know there is porn on the internet

If not, ask any kid at random to show you where to find it

So tell your kids to stay off those sites.

Why is the government involved?
I think we have already established the need for minimum age on social media even though you refuse to accept it

We established that conservatives don’t want to be told how to raise their kids but have no problem telling others how to do it.

Why is the government involved in keeping kids out of bars or titty joints or actual physical porn shops? Why do we make laws making it illegal to use tobacco or alcohol? Why are drugs illegal?

Just tell your kids to stay away from those things, right?

From the link:

Children under 14 could not open accounts.

Don't need the government raising my kids. They meddle enough as it is.
So, open an account and let your 12 year old use it.

From the article. . :eusa_think:

". . .Federal courts have blocked much of that law on First Amendment grounds. Florida took the case to the U.S. Supreme Court, which heard arguments last month but has not issued a ruling.. . . "

I'm sort of confused on two points with this.

First, there is no fine or penalty mentioned in the article which has been worked into the law, which is levied onto parents, for allowing thirteen year olds, twelve year olds, or younger from having theses account. In fact, if bad parents purposely give their kids smart devices, and let them have these types of toxic accounts, I'd say, they are more at fault then tech companies.

Second, the SCOTUS has already ruled in many H.S. cases, that student run papers, have no first Amendment rights, Nor do children have Constitutional rights, they are the charges of their parents & guardians, when kids disagree on parenting decisions based on the Constitution . . or at least this had always been my understanding.

So this article makes no sense to me.

Since when do children have Constitutional Rights?
We have a government these days aided and abetted by their surrogate media and organizations like the ACLU who protects rights for some but not the politically incorrect. . .such government now dictates what is and is not legal under the Constitution and lately, if the court disagrees, they just ignore it.

And when that government WANTS very young children to be taught things like CRT, gender identification, sexually explicit information and reading material, when they support zero regulation of any kind on abortion, when they promote obscene and vulgar transvestite entertainment for kids, when they punish parents for not allowing their kids to take the drugs and have the surgery to transgender. . .

. . .they of course want all information they don't like to be suppressed or banned, but do you really believe they care what vulgarity, solicitation, adults themes that kids are exposed to on the internet?

Do you consider this website the equivalent of a porn shop?

Republicans enact yet another law motivated by fear, ignorance, bigotry, and hate.
Wow. That's quite a list of adjectives to characterize the motives of Republicans for what amounts to a age of consent law. Do you think fear, ignorance, bigotry and hatred motivate support for age of consent laws on:
Alchohol
Tobacco
Driving
Voting
Military Service
Wage labor .. and..
Porn????

Exactly.

Kids can only get around the law with parent's consent.
Kids can't get do anything without their parent's consent. It's a pointless law. Just more culture war grandstanding.

Of course, it does pave the way for more intrusive measures later - which I guess is another turn-on for the fascists.

Well, in just about every state, except Florida now, they can open an account on a social media site without their parent's consent.
