Donald Trump revives 'birther' views in attack on fellow Republican Ted Cruz

Donald Trump cast doubt on Republican candidate Ted Cruz’s eligibility for the presidency on Tuesday, on the basis that he may not be a natural-born US citizen.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Trump said the fact that Cruz was born in Canada was a “very precarious one for Republicans because he’d be running and the courts may take a long time to make a decision. You don’t want to be running and have that kind of thing over your head.”

The Republican frontrunner went on to claim a “lot of people are talking about … the fact that he was born in Canada and he has had a double passport.”

Not that I'm in the camp of Cruz, but he's in the same type of situation that McCain was in. They were both born to American mothers (and in McCain's case, his father was American as well), while they were overseas.

Obama was born in the United States (Hawaii to be specific) to an American mother.

All three of them are eligible to be considered natural born citizens.

I'm wondering why Trump isn't giving Cruz hell about that, unless he's looking for a VP after he wins the primary.

McCain and Cruz are natural born citizens jus sanguinis, because one or both parents were citizens – their place of birth is irrelevant.

Obama is a natural born citizen jus soli, because he was born in the United States – the citizenship of his parents is irrelevant.

Trump's attack on Cruz is as ignorant and as unwarranted as his attack on the president.

Canada is basically the 51at state, so what's the problem?

I suspect that Canadians would disagree..

After-all, Ice Hockey is the greatest sport in the world and Canadians own it.

Eh, Americans play with their balls...

Well, after Obama this issue is kappoooooty..

besides .. Trump is just playing you,

Thanks, and the outrage is entertaining....

Interestingly enough, Ted Cruz even said that it's settled law and he's a US citizen by birth due to the fact that his mother was an American citizen when she had him in Canada. And, that is true, if a child is born abroad to US citizens, then that child is also considered a US citizen by birth.

Hey..................wait a minute..................Obama's mother was a US citizen, so it doesn't really matter if he was born in Hawaii or Kenya, because he would have been a citizen by birth anyway.

Cool..................Obama IS a US citizen by birth, thanks for clearing that up Cruz.
