Elizabeth Warren Fights Back Against the "Magical Accounting" of Trickle-Down Economics

I'll never understand people like Warren.

It's bad to let people keep what they earn and it'd better to take (steal via taxes) money from some to give free shit to others.

Robin Hood economics

Warrens economics are based on the argument that "we cannot afford to pay our workers more" is bullshit based on record profits

JFK once said a rising economic tide lifts all boats
That is no longer true, right now it only lifts the yachts
No one is stopping anyone from making more money.

Warren herself who grew up "on the ragged edge of the middle class" made it to the 1% she just thinks you're all to fucking stupid to do it without the government stealing money from some to give to you

When you look at 50 million workers, yes they are

The opportunities for advancement are not there, the wage pool is not there, the benefits are not there. Warren is not saying the government should steal the money and give it to the workers but that the government should stand on the side of the workers for once
By doing what, Nutsucker? Machine gunning teh management?

Here's an idea: How about quit demonizing the wealthy and successful and let them start some businesses and employ some workers, giving workers more choice and thus more leverage in wage negotiations?
Wow, radical, eh?
Of course a sad sack like you thinks he's powerless and just has to grovel for whatever crumbs he can get. And in your case that might be true.

Great idea!

Lets start rewarding companies that are creating new businesses, employing more workers, giving workers more choice

To do that, we do not need to continue government policies that reward companies that send jobs overseas, that are slashing workers jobs, pay and benefits for short term profits.
Please detail the rewards companies get from sending jobs overseas. Hint, there arent any. Instead let's end the incentives for doing that. Like high taxes, high regulations, and policies that increase insurance expense like Workman's Comp.

I have yet to see one suggestion that addresses what the squaw is squawking about. I see no post where the how the tax code can be made more fair for the middle class.

Warren's question might as well be; "Why don't we just call Superman in to solve world peace?"

There are ideas to make the tax code to greater benefit for the many, with little or no harm to the very rich. Face it, our current tax policies along with recent Supreme Court Decisions have made the United States into a Plutocracy.

Sen. Warren's character is being assassinated by the ignorant, those who will never benefit when the power elite has privatized everything, imposed draconian rules for voting, and is once again polluting our air, water and soil.

Of course the ignorant, biddable and members of the elite will continue to assassinate the character of all candidates, R or D, who advocate policies which fulfill the vision and mission statement spelled out in the Preamble to our Constitution.

Can I try?

Tax capital gains at the same rate as earned income
Return to pre-1980 tax rates for those making over $1 million
Make all medical expenses tax deductable
Make all education expenses tax deductable
Increase the minimum wage to $10 and add automatic increases tied to the cost of living
Incentivize businesses that are creating jobs and punish those who are sending jobs over seas

Tax capital gains at the same rate as earned income: How does that help the middle class?
Return to pre-1980 tax rates for those making over $1 million So they can pay more of the share? How does that help the middle class?
Make all medical expenses tax deductable A tax cut for everyone I can agree with.

1. Tax capital gains at the same rate as earned income: How does that help the middle class?
By treating earnings from sweat the same as earnings from investment

2. Return to pre-1980 tax rates for those making over $1 million So they can pay more of the share? How does that help the middle class?
By increasing the tax base

3. Make all medical expenses tax deductable A tax cut for everyone I can agree with.
You shouldn't be taxed on money you spent for maintainig your health. Puts more money in the pockets of the middle class

4. Make all education expenses tax deductable A tax cut for everyone I can agree with. Do that and no one will be able to afford college.
Education provides a benefit for society, a tax cut puts more money in the pockets of the middle class

5. Increase the minimum wage to $10 and add automatic increases tied to the cost of living How does that help the middle class?
Helps the low end middle class and helps the children of the middle class

6. Incentivize businesses that are creating jobs and punish those who are sending jobs over sea The only real good idea but a little too late, needed to do this when Clinton was passing free trade agreements

We need to get away from the idea that all wealthy people are "job creators" they are not. Incentivize those who are and punish those who are not

Yeah...the central government needs to confiscate more wealth from Americans because after all, we know how efficient and effective the government is in spending our tax dollars.

When Reagan cut all tax brackets, that robbed the American worker? How?

Be specific.

Reagan's tax cuts eliminated middle and working class deductions, such as tool purchases and union dues.
And eliminated deductions for the wealthy like income averaging and interest deduction.
What was your point again?

Details of rewards:

  • Low wages, no benefits paid
  • low or no taxes
  • few if any regulations
  • no OSHA
So instead of rewarding corporate scofflaws, let's put a tariff on all of the goods they import to the US. Enough to protect home grown, honest Americans.

There's a lot hiding in that <more>. Like "tax the rich more".

Warren didn't spell out how she'd achieve these goals.

So just another whiner with no answers.

First define the problem, next look at all possible solutions, no matter how silly or how unlikely they might be in solving the problem.

Sen. Warren is in the process of defining the problem.

Clearly, our economic woes commenced before the passage of the PPACA and the Obama Administration. Just as clearly the stubborn insistence by the extreme conservatives in Congress has created a paralysis, one which serves no one but the ambition of public servents who put their career first. In doing so they have slowed the economy and allowed our nations infrastructure to further 'rest'.

Sen Warren is asking a simple question:

Why are we continuing economic policies that are only helping the wealthy? Why can't government policies stand up for working Americans for once?

Of course, all that is needed is more laws and regulations. What an empty statement, we need to have more laws and regulation to help the middle class. That isn't even possible or at least the Indian lady didn't tell us how.

Who writes the tax code now?

The wealthy or the working class? How many deductions are available to the wealthy vs how many are available to the working class?
Who writes the tax code? Last I checked it was Democrats in control.
The working class doesnt pay taxes, so I dont know what the fuck you're complaining about.

That is wrong.
Our "woes" began with the recession under Bush and worsened since Democrats took over. For most of Bush's presidency we had low unemployment, rising wages, and steady but not great growth.
Democrats have made the economy stagnant with a tax and regulatory regime like France's. The result is high unemployment, low wage growth and lack of opportunity.

Your full of shit. Our economic woes began with the passage of Prop 13 in CA and later when your messiah Reagan attacked government and changed avarice from a deadly sin into a virtue.

"The 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s were prosperous times for top U.S. executives, especially relative to other wage earners and even relative to other very high wage earners (those earning more than 99.9 percent of all wage earners). Executives constitute a larger group of workers than is commonly recognized, and the extraordinary pay increases received by chief executive officers of large firms had spillover effects in pulling up the pay of other executives and managers.1 Consequently, the growth of CEO and executive compensation overall was a major factor driving the doubling of the income shares of the top 1.0 percent and top 0.1 percent of U.S. households from 1979 to 2007 (Bivens and Mishel 2013). Income growth since 2007 has also been very unbalanced as profits have reached record highs and, correspondingly, the stock market has boomed while the wages of most workers (and their families’ incomes) have declined over the recovery (Mishel et al. 2012; Mishel 2013). It is useful to track CEO compensation to assess how well this group is doing in the recovery, especially since this is an early indication of how well other top earners and high-income households are faring through 2013. This paper presents CEO compensation trends through 2013 and finds:

Trends in CEO compensation last year:

Wow, it's like the expansions in the 80s and 90s never happened.

Reagan's tax cuts eliminated middle and working class deductions, such as tool purchases and union dues.
They also eliminated interest rate deductions on everything but home mortgages
So?

It was the right thing to do.

Right thing to do if your objective is to destroy the middle class
But the upper income people were the main beneficiaries of that, having more interest cost than lower income people and benefitting more from the deduction. What about that do you not get?

You people are very ignorant, your comments aren't even worth responding to but someone has to tell you. Moon bat is a very old and tired personal attack by that idiot Asian woman on the Hot Air site. It's almost as old and boring as you.

Very appropriate for the description of beaucoup dinky dau Libtards that have a convoluted perspective on everything and never get it right. You know, like it is a good thing to use the force of government to steal money from those that earn it and give it to those that didn't earn it.

OK so you've named exactly what I detailed: companies get to flee the high tax/high regulation environment of the US.

All that does is protect the jobs of overpaid union thugs. Any American who purchases anything manufactured overseas will be greatly penalized. That means the crowd that shops at Walmart will be penalized. That means the poor, for those of you who live in Rio Linda.

Tariffs are paid by consumers, not corporations. Like most liberal schemes to mulct us of our earnings, tariffs sound good on the surface, but they are actually against our best interests.
