A good portion of the People that ended up in our State were the product of slavery ... But that is very much part of our State history.
A lot of People came from the Caribbean Islands ... Not straight from Africa ... And their influence is enormous ... It is a prevalent culture.
I live in a State where the People speak different languages ... And in a way we have our own language.

All the history intertwines ... It cannot be separated when studying our State History.
The Native Americans were important ... The Hispanics were important ... The Slaves from Africa and the Caribbean were important ...
The French were Important ... The other European Colonists were important.

When they came together ... They all accomplished great things.
So ... When the question comes up ... We don't have to pretend the things that were horrible ...
Didn't lead us to who we really are ... And everything we can be.

When minorities were gaining jobs in NYC, Reagan promised Democrat Patrick Moynihan campaign contributions if Moynihan would eliminate legislation guaranteeing minorities a minimum % of employment.
Both parties set minorities back 30 years.
