The ice was probably only a 1000m thick in Illinois during the last glacial maximum.![]()
FIrst off: 1000m is about 3000ft so more than half a mile. But more importantly it is estimated that in the Erie basin during the Wisconsinin advance (the most recent advance) the ice was a mile thick.
I wouldn't have much problem with it being less than a mile thick near Chicago but it was close enough. And considering I wasn't really talking about technical details at that point it's nice to know you still focus on technical details.
Now if only you could apply them to climate and geography.
