GOP revives rule allowing $1 salaries for government employees

If we have mediocre government employees it is because we WANTED mediocre government. Therefore we cut salaries, thus not attracting any but mediocre employees.

You don't set salary based on what you have - you set it on the basis of what you want.

This is just capitalism. Every corporation knows this stuff.

We have mediocre government employees because of A. a lack of accountability to the public and B. affirmative action hiring.
C. unrealistic rules protecting federal workers from being terminated

It is a common misconception that federal employees can not be terminated. You just need to have your ducks in a row to do so

No, labor was overpriced, many the company was crushed by it despite managements best efforts...
Forget the $1 rule for politicians. How about every other year instead of the CEO getting the bonus the workers get it. Or split the profits 50% to executives 50% to workers. another $20 million they give employees the bonus?

/---- It's none of your business what companies pay their CEOs. It's not taxpayer money, Fidel.
Then don't complain workers aren't doing as well now as they used to. You sent all those high paying jobs overseas and non union companies only give profit sharing and raises to executives.

You will never make America great again for blue collar. Not like my dad who worked for Ford. He had it real good. Those days are over for blue collar. At least the low skilled ones. Those are the people trumps going to disappoint
Robots now make fords.
Here's the other thing happening people don't realize is happening. Companies are subcontracting jobs to 3rd party companies.

In the past 35% workers were unions. In the future 35% will be temps.
tis better to offer work to temps, than nothing at all.
BTW, the temp agencies carry the benefit packages. They also carry the workers comp, SS, FICA, State Disability and Medicare/Caid expenses. Companies using temp labor on up to upper level highly trained and skilled employees save themselves the headache of doing it themselves. This frees up more capital to invest back into the business which creates growth. Temp agency workers actually enjoy the freedom temping offers.
Everybody wins.

It is a very long and arduous process.
It must be simplified.

Yes, but the tools are there for a manager if they are so inclined.

Welfare isn't for the "general welfare." It only benefits those who receive it. The general welfare clause refers only to the powers specifically enumerated in the Constitution.
It is of the general welfare of all not to maintain a peasant class begging for food

Declining to rob Peter to pay Paul does not equate to "maintaining a peasant class."

It is deciding how best to spend our tax revenue

Can't all go to the wealthy can it?
why not, the revenue comes mostly from them in the first place. The welfare crowd puts nothing in, why should then expect anything out?
Actually, most of our budget supports their interests
Over HALF of the federal non discretionary budget is earmarked to social spending

And if you can't find a way out of poverty don't pass on that gene. I was born in Detroit in 1970 and we got out. Glad I was born. Life is good. Many black people worked at Ford in metro Detroit but they chose to stay in Detroit rather than get out. The jobs went away now their kids are stuck in Detroit. Their parents should have got out like we did.

Black people didn't want to buy a $50k home in a nice neighborhood they stayed in Detroit got a $15k house and a $35k Cadillac. Black people with money were great for the economy back then God bless them.

But did blacks with money make detroit a great place? Nope. Corruption and fatherlessness created what we have now.

Poor people, stop having kids. Wages will go up
Those who could leave Detroit and find work elsewhere did
Those who couldn't were stuck.
You are blaming the victim. It was the capitalists who used up Detroit and abandoned it
Why don't you apply the same standard to those who have lived in Appalacia for generations?
I do. Who are the Appalachians blaming for their woes? Do their kids leave for better opportunity or do they knock up Betty Lou at 18 and keep themselves trapped in poverty.
I watch this show which features a rural county in Eastern Kentucky. it is a former coal mining area. Over the last ten or so years, the mines have been shuttered and with little other opportunity available, many young people have either left the area or are trapped in low skill low wage service jobs. And of course there is a rather insidious drug problem. The number one substance...Meth..One sheriff's deputy in the department stated one in ten dwellings in the county is known to be or suspected of having a meth lab inside.

Labor should have a choice of unemployment compensation, if they don't want to work and don't want to go on more expensive, means tested welfare.
I don't know where to go with that. It does appear that you support some type of social payment for those who flat out refuse to even make an attempt at finding employment. In other words we the productive should be burdened with the lazy and disinterested. Just because....

Unemployment is already currently 15-20%. Anyone who's buying their current 5% number, must also believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause.
it is why we need unemployment compensation, simply for being unemployed in our at-will employment States.
it already exists. For 12 to 24 weeks. Then you get your ass back to work.
Again you refer to "we"...

those of us it applies to.
What does at will employment have to do with anything?
reading comprehension, "budget shortfalls"?

This coming from a person that doesn't belong to a union and won't form one at his place of employment.

I work for a surprisingly liberal place. Even the president defends unions. We knock them too but he understands their importance. Do you?

I've worked for places I would have love to unionize. But they would just fire you and would the sheep sign up or be told their job will go to Texas? One place actually did cut half our staff then opened up a competitor in Texas we would compete against. Sad. Too many bad places to work.

Man you don't remember anything I post do you? If you want to unionize so be, I really don't care either way. Collective bargaining is fine unless you are a public employee. I agree with FDR Truman and Kennedy, public sector unions should not be allowed to have collective bargaining.

I'll give you that. But don't think that's going to help the middle class. Don't think that's going to help unemployment. I don't mind the idea of cutting the government in half but not overnight.

And I don't think teachers should make as much as they do.

But don't you dare try to say "but only the police get to have a union". Why them and not teachers? Because that would be going too far. If you are ok with unions for police you are a hypocrite.

That is the GOP attitude right here. Better to have low paying jobs than no jobs at all. I remember that in the 2000's. So this is why workers aren't doing as well today as they were back when Bush was president because collectively we didn't realize what a huge step back the middle class was taking when all those good paying union jobs went away. Now we realize it.

No, many of the temp agencies don't carry benefits.

For Temp Workers, 'Temp' Looking More Permanent

"It is clear that companies are using temp and contract workers — and unfortunately not making those permanent hires

and it's coming to your profession soon.

One of the biggest growth areas in temping is high-skilled work: engineering, information technology, pharmaceuticals, accounting and finance.

Companies use temps because they can pay fewer benefits, take on fewer legal responsibilities and fire them easily

You're Disposable'

The automaker's U.S. workforce now exceeds 22,000. But most new hires at Nissan plants are considered long-term temps. Unions are using the issue in their bid to unionize auto workers in the South.

you're talking about folks doing the same job for, you know, $15 an hour and other folks doing it for $25 an hour.

So be honest with the uneducated blue collar fools who voted for Trump. You don't want them making $25 hr. Go fuck yourselves you liars.

UAW Criticizes Nissan For Use Of 'Perma-Temps'

UAW estimates more than half of Nissan's plant workers are in some kind of temporary situation. The company contends the percentage is far less.

Mike Sparks used to work at Nissan. He's now a Republican Tennessee legislator who wants to make sure Nissan doesn't receive government incentives based on creating less-than-permanent jobs.

But Nissan is still the best deal around.

BRUHN: They can get away with it because there's enough people out there that need jobs. I mean, people have to work.

FARMER: And right now, Nissan is still paying enough to keep the assembly line moving.

Republican lower expectations!!! LOL

why is there any distinction between part-time and full-time, for benefits purposes. if it is Only for the bottom line, then why not end any tax preference.

The Police are infrastructure. For something to be Socialist, it has to include Social control of a means of production.

I am against Public schools, though. Worthless, propaganda spewing, tax dollar black holes.
