CDZ How long will we pretend not to see the rural vs urban divide?

How long will we keep pretending that the rural vs urban divide isn't at the heart of our major controversies? Or rather the rural vs mega urban divide.
People in the nation's largest cities have different problems that we do in the country. They have different expectations from government are a differential willingness to trade liberty for security.
Crime, the concept of systemic racism, police/community relations, the transfer and spread of virures, dependence upon government for transportation, gun control need and attitudes. All of it is different in nowhere Tenn than it is in Chicago for example.
It may well be that what is best for NYC is bad for Watertown, NY. Or what's workable in Detroit isn't close to doable in the small towns to the north.
What's the answer?
For centuries there have been urban/rural cultural differences in most 1st-world countries. Once upon a time the majority of the population was on the "rural" half of the equation. That was a few centuries ago, before the industrial revolution. I am from the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio and I do not know what looks more foreign to me, the gang violence in the inner cities or, the quaint Amish communities in rural Ohio.

What really ticks me off is when urban people visit pristine areas and leave trash everywhere.
Rural folks care about the environment and directly pump money into wild areas with license fees and hunting, fishing clubs. We spend far more time in the wild than the Spandex wearing tourists.

the answer is that you are FOCUSED on a single ---not so important---issue
That makes no sense to the point made. What did he say that you believe is untrue?
I do not believe that there is a MAJOR conflict between URBAN AND SUBURBAN dwellers
(as if they are made of UNIQUE CLASSES) in the USA. Little me grew up in the "..'burbs"
I do admit there is a class of CONNTRY HICKS at there in the hills-----that do constitute a
kind of "CLASS" and a desperate need for STD screening and dental work
Yeah how about we do that dar instead a shippin you all power, food and buildin materials? Actually I think Suburbia is at least split. Small cities are not that different in my experience. Megacities are where the thinking is diametrically opposed to the rest of us and not without some reason.
who is the "REST OF US" ?

What liberty are you asserting that urban people trade for security?

Solution...
Let the police do their job.
Welfare based on grades, not race.

That's true. But that red land feeds the blue.
The blue areas contribute 65% of our GDP, so we pay you for the food and subsidies for producing it.
Yep... And if shit happens... That red will be fed first and foremost. The dollar crashes we might not have the coolest cell phones... But the red will be fed. The serfs will live. Beware the pissed off serfs.

The Blue areas that contribute that amount are not the slums in the Blue areas but the corporations located in the fancy areas with nice restaurants, museums and theatres.
The Ds don't give a shit about the slums.

??? What do you think the cities have to barter with? It's not like you build anything anymore.

Not fucking with you here... No gotcha or anything... I find this turn a very interesting thought experiment. Chances are this should be in it's own thread but frankly this going to be my last post of the night... I have work tomorrow.

Say the dollar crashed and barter is the way to go to get your needs met for food... What do cities have to barter?

Beer and sex.

America needs to find an answer, as the rest of the world's modern democracies have done.

It's curious in that it could be America demonstrating a breakdown of civilization due to domestic problems that seem to be unsolvable.

Could it be a demonstration of the inability of capitalism to work within a democracy?

China could have found the model that can work with it's carefully controlled capitalism under the leadership of communism.

There can be little doubt that one of America's biggest problems that is destroying the country is the inequality that has come about with 'greedy' and 'uncontrolled' capitalism.

We have issues that need to be addressed for sure, possibly through Nordic style Compassionate Capitalism: BUT........ "Carefully controlled capitalism under the leadership of communism" Are you serious? Communism/socialism merely drags others down and it never pulls anybody up and it curiously doesn't apply to it's rich leaders. like the BLM leaders living in high priced hills of LA. There is a reason our poor are among the richest poor of all time. That is NOT true in China or Russia. Also policy/regulation government interference are often responsibile for inequity for example LBJ's welfare trap for blacks. Or the welfare gap that makes unskilled laborers give up things to go to work.

America's poor are the poorest of all the modern democracies.

Capitalism isn't working in America because of it's greed that causes huge income inequality.Capitalism under Communist leadership shows no signs of slowing down or any signs of failure so far.

It really does appear that China has found the answer for a country with a very large population. When America sorts out it's self destruction it may end up doing the same. Success of either political side in America doesn't look possible. The people have no answers and this forum is an example of the degree of dysfunction.

As long as the US is held back by M.A.D., I'm betting on China.

Where does this "Capitalism under Communist control" operate? Are you saying our poor are wprse off than China's poor? That's not true. In fact our poorest ( total benefits public assistance , SNAP, Medicaid, housing etc) rake in so much in the value or non cash benefits that it creats a real barrier for them to go to work called the welfare gap. They are overall betetr off than the working poor.

Exactly. Like Moscow controlling half of Europe and Asia. Didn't work out any better than Beijing is doing for 1.2 billion people.

That is unless genocide, famine, poverty, empty cities that crumble before anyone can move in, and tyranny is your objective...

The problem is rooted in the improper segregation and desegregation. All of the states are essentially the same, and not different, that a union of states is supposed to be.
