I want it back: it was Camelot

With "loyal opposition" like the Repugs, who openly undermine, oppose, disparage, and obstruct anything and everything he tries to accomplish - who needs enemies? It isn't poor leadership skills. Repugs simply won't accept that Obama is the duly elected leader.

bullshit...Clinton had plenty of opposition from those asswipes and he managed to keep the gap between the 2 parties from splintering like this guy and Bush have let happen....Bush and Obama are the first 2 Presidents that i have experienced that seemed to be just talking to the People who support them, everyone else ....fuck you.... that's ...piss poor leadership skills.....

. Repugs simply won't accept that Obama is the duly elected leader.

what does that mean?....that everyone is supposed to follow the guy even if you don't want what he wants?......just let him decide?....that's what guys like Franco and Lakota do....and the hacks on the right did it with Bush....

Were you alive during the Clinton administration? Republicans tried to destroy his presidency just like they are trying to destroy Obama's presidency. They put his entire life under a microscope and endless investigations. Then they impeached him. If anything, they were even bigger assholes then, if that is even possible.

What I mean is that Repugs need to let the man do his job. They don't like his proposals? Fine, vote against them, but at least let things come up for a vote. It would be nice if they would work on jobs like they promised to do instead of devote all their time and energy in muckraking, investigating, and naysaying.

do you know how to read?.....i said......"Clinton had plenty of opposition from those asswipes and he managed to keep the gap between the 2 parties from splintering like this guy and Bush have let happen"......Clinton had some leadership ability.....Obama does not....Clinton was able to make a lot of people on the right give him the benefit of the doubt and let him do his job....Obama does not have that ability.....when i was delivering Mail there were an awful lot of Democrats on my route who were pretty unsure of Obama after he got in....and they claimed they voted for him....there aint nothing like a leader who can lead....

You know how people know who a leader is?

Because he's got the people following him.

Whoops, that wouldn't be the big 0.

he has people following him.....but unfortunately its only people that agree with him...same thing with Bush.....before that the other Presidents had others from the opposing party that at least looked at the guy as the President of the Country....

I want people back that I knew as Democrats. I want good men and women who believed in chasing a dream. I want my liberals back.

I want Camelot not Communist dreams. I want real hope and change not dime store bullies from Chicago.

If a Democrat today ran and won on JFK's 1960 platform, I'm virtually certain every rightwinger in this thread would shit his or her pants.

i would be shocked too.....Democrats of today aint nothing like the ones in that time...

Bring them back ...Oh Lord please bring them back and end this horrible nightmare we are living in.... wake us all from this present nightmare..................................:(

If Kennedy was so great, why was he hated by conservatives?

if Reagan was supposed to be so great, why is he hated by Liberals?...

His legacy: Voodoo tax rates that have ruined the nonrich and the country, the Pub Propaganda machine that has ruined political discourse, and his boy GWB with the stupidest wars ever AND a world depression. A bs catastrophe in every way.

Personally, I feel like both sides have been on the decline for a long time. The days of Eisenhower and Kennedy are long behind us.

Perhaps it's time we go out and find the next ones. I'm tired of these people in office who care little and talk big.

The Kennedys by a Christmas Tree!!! yes!!!! CHRISTMAS CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss them I miss their values I miss their style ... I miss the real White House :(

We don't need to find them. We need to become them.

It's difficult to imagine a Democrat today running on implementing FDR's Second/Economic Bill of Rights, as JFK and the Dems did in 1960.

There are only a few heirs to that tradition in federal elected office today (Teddy Kennedy was obviously the exemplar of that wing of the party for decades) and I'm not sure I see any of them running for president any time soon.

Banana is not like JFK.

Banana family ain't Camelot.

I wasnt alive with JFK. What exactly was this amazing dream you all seem enchanted with.

Everything I can see while looking at history is that Kennedy was overrated and Camelot was a media construct.

^^^ yup.

I see a lot of similarities in the way the media treated the Kennedy's and the way they treated the Obamas(at least in the 1st term).

Sounds more like what you miss is the fairytale you were fed and not the reality of the the very flawed individuals.

If you weren't there it's kind of hard to explain. When the 1950's ended, most young Americans didn't believe the nation would survived till the end of the century. Both the US and the USSR were building bigger and bigger bombs. The idea was war would mean mutual destruction so nobody would start it. The fear of course, was that one side would make a miscalculation, which nearly happen a couple of times. With the launch of Sputnik, a Soviet satellite, the country was in near hysteria with visions of satellites carrying nuclear weapons passing over our heads ever few hours.

After the Supreme Court shot down segregation in schools in 1954, racial unrest in the country reached a fervor pitch in the South by 1960. The NAACP was actively challenging Jim Crow laws and the KKK was extracting retribution on Blacks with killings, church burning and bombing.

Into this stepped JFK in 1960. He officially launched the space race declaring that the US would put a man on the moon by end of the decade. This became a national goal which was backed by both parties. It was seen not as just a matter of national pride but a race for survival. JFK made his position clear in his presidential campaign. If elected he would end segregation once and for all and see that ever American was able to vote, and enjoy equal opportunity under the law without regard to race. He of course didn't live to see the dream come true, but IMHO, his death helped bring that dream to fruition.

It's their values I miss the most.

Today it's pretty hard to get a woman who is a social asset to stick around to take care of the social end a while I chase women, then when I'm blue listen with unabashed admiration to me talk about myself. I miss that a lot.

On the upside, there are more single women in a wide range of ages looking for mentors with wit and money, caterers are plentiful in a range of pricelines, and there are plenty of low cost concierge-tangent services to take care of social bookkeeping from an annotated excel spreadsheet.

Better, Reagan's people made it all guilt free. Except for the rabble. They have to feel guilty and doubt their self-worth because, well... because that is how God wants it to be for folks who aspire to work hard and follow the rules because maybe then they can hit the lottery.

What's to miss?

Norman Matton Thomas (November 20, 1884 – December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S., Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech:

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of “liberalism”, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

He went on to say: “I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform.”

It was only a matter of time before it fell to ruin
