Interesting California Statistics- 1/3 of Nations Welfare Recipients Live There

One has to ask just why a state with;
~12% of America's population has almost 1/3 or the countries welfare recipients.

- 55% of immigrant families in the state get some kind of means-tested benefits, compared with just 30% of natives.

With a permanent majority in the state Senate and the Assembly, a prolonged dominance in the executive branch and a weak opposition, California Democrats have long been free to indulge blue-state ideology while paying little or no political price. The state's poverty problem is unlikely to improve while policymakers remain unwilling to unleash the engines of economic prosperity that drove California to its golden years.

Here is how California got this way.

First phase

Cities in California passed ordinances decriminalizing quality of life infractions. Pissing and shitting in public would no longer be subject to police action. Sleeping on the sidewalks and in parks was now allowed. Panhandling is permitted with a city issued permit. It's free. Homeless came here from all over the country. Some with tickets given to them by a city looking to unburdening itself.

Second phase

Drug use is decriminalized and out in the open. The city provides clean needles which are discarded everywhere.

Third phase

Judges ordered a massive release of criminals from overcrowded prisons. These ex inmates had nowhere to go, no jobs, no homes. Many are addicted, alcoholic or mentally ill.

And that's how it happened.

Which means nothing since the problems California has are untouched by California's wealth.

California is losing its middle class. Estate properties come with small apartments. Household help is live in. Gated communities have gated communities within them providing a second layer of security. California is slowly returning to feudalism.

One need not be surprised with the data presented in the article. It does surprise me the LA Times would print it though. Yes, California has some of the highest State Income Tax in the Nation for a reason. The welfare system is just a monetary revolving door. Tax those who have up to their eyeballs, then route the funds to those who will spend it on taxable goods the funds originator might not otherwise had done. By no means should you invest that money, or pay down debt etc. Those funds must be annexed, re-distributed to those dependent on the government so the state can collect the funds again, and so the beat goes on. Kind of a big ponzi scheme.

Only about a third of sales in the state are taxed. Most of the sales are from street vendors, garage sales and swap meets where no sales tax is ever collected. Much of the merchandise is likewise stolen.

Street vendors would come by my shop everyday selling everything from lamb chops to refrigerators. No sales tax.
