Is Home-Schooling a Fundamental Right?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

my son would be much less kind to you than I

And don't think for a minute that I don't appreciate you kindness and generosity with your time!

Want me to say a prayer for you?

You pray any time about anything you want to pray about

You see you mistake me stating what I believe as an attack on your religion.

You get to talk about what you believe and I get to talk about what I believe.

The christains have been able for so many decades to FORCE others to pretend they believe out of bullying they forgot they were the bully.

Freedom of religion means I dont have to pretend to believe in christianity for your comfort.

GET IT

"The christains have been able for so many decades to FORCE others...."

I can help!

Instructions

1

To remove stains from porcelain, whether it be a sink or bath fixture or porcelain tile, mix 1 teaspoon of any dish detergent, 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of bleach. If the stain is in the sink, fill the sink with a few inches of warm water, add the mixture and let it sit overnight. Rinse the sink out in the morning. If the stain is on a piece of tile or in an area that will not allow water to pool, take a piece of cheesecloth and put some warm water on it. Take the mixture, pour it on the stain and cover it with the cheese cloth. Allow it to sit overnight, then rinse it off in the morning. Repeat if necessary.
2

To remove spots from fine fabrics, upholstery or carpeting, combine 3 tablespoons of peroxide and 1 tablespoon of ammonia. Place the mixture on the stain and leave on for one hour. Rinse off and repeat if necessary. Do not mix more than you need of this mixture, as the longer it sits together it will generate a heat reaction. Also, use this in a well ventilated area as this mixture will generates fumes.

I don't think they've been granted asylum. they may have apllied. it's been awhile since I did anything with immigration, but anyone who is here, regardless of whether they came here legally on a temp visa or something or illegally, may make a claim for asylum.

In this case, their only claim is mean old Germany will expose their children to perhaps the finest education in the world, as well as better social welfare than the US, and they can do religion after school. THE HORROR

no.....the Germans' claim was that they were "threatened with jail, fines and the forcible removal of their children from their home. What was their crime? They were homeschooling!"

socialism in Germany doesn't seem so nice now....does it....?

We already have a very dangerous condition in this country when the federal government presumes to dictate to the local school boards what they can and cannot teach on threat of losing federal funding. There should be NO federal funding of education at any level. The Founders never intended for the federal government to have ANY control of the education of the people and they would be amassing their revolutionary army if the federal government had assumed such authority.

Who here is so foolish as to not believe one of the fundamental essentials in establishing totalitarian government is to control the message? And how else can they do that other than by control of the media AND the schools and what is taught to the children? Once they have that, how soon before the First Amendment is also overturned and people can be punished for speaking other than the official message?

The parents referenced in the OP are political refugees in every sense of that concept.

The parents are political idiots. Home schooling has been illegal in Germany for almost 300 years. You mean to tell me the parents didn't know what would happen if they attempted to home school? If I sand on my front porch smoking a joint, can I apply for political asylum to Amsterdam when I get arrested?

And this issue goes beyond whether or not you believe in home schooling. Home school may be fine and legal here in America, but not in Germany. We have no right to assume we know what's best for education in Germany, or to give asylum to anyone who doesn't agree with Germany's laws. Germany's laws are not oppressive. The parents can still teach their kids whatever they want after school.

Foreign affairs has to be considered in this case. And insulting Germany and slapping them in the face because one family wants to home school is a really stupid idea.

Home schooling is a very complicated subject to debate.
Is homeschooling credible? Certainly it is when it is done in a correct manner and if it is diligently performed by those in charge.
If it is done in a half-hearten manner the ones that suffer are, of course the children.
Who holds the Homeschooling Association to credentials? Do you feel it is necessary to make them be accountable for the education of their children?
Public educators are held to a standard, so why should not the home educators.

Nobody is insulting Germany or slapping them in the face. Perhaps you don't know the purpose of political asylum? It is to provide safe haven for those who face arrest or other severe persecution from oppressive laws. If we in the United States believe in unalienable rights, one of which is the right to educate our children ourselves, then we have to believe it is wrong to deny that right to others also.

Main Entry: political asylum
Part of Speech: n
Definition: refuge given by one country to a citizen of another country to protect that person from arrest or persecution
Dictionary.com

The U.K.'s Guardian's report of this incident:

A US judge has granted *political asylum to a German family who said they had fled the country to avoid persecution for home schooling their children.

In the first reported case of its kind, Tennessee immigration judge Lawrence Burman ruled that the family of seven have a legitimate fear of prosecution for their beliefs. Germany requires parents to enrol their children in school in most cases and has levied fines against those who *educate their children at home.

Christians Uwe Romeike, a piano teacher, and his wife, Hannelore, moved to Morristown, Tennessee, in 2008 after *German authorities fined them thousands of euros for keeping their children out of school and sent police to escort them to classes, Romeike said. They had been holding classes in their home.

Along with thousands of torture victims, political dissidents, members of religious minorities and other persecuted groups who win political asylum every year, the Romeike family will now be free to live and work in the US. The case does not create a legal precedent unless the US government appeals and a higher immigration court hears the case. . . .

"Home schoolers in Germany are a particular social group, which is one of the protected grounds under the asylum law," said Mike Connelly, attorney for the Home School Legal Defence Association, who argued the case. "This judge looked at the evidence, he heard their testimony, and he felt that the way Germany is treating home schoolers is wrong. The rights being violated here are basic human rights."

In 2006 the Romeikes pulled their children out of a state school in Bissingen, Germany, in protest of what they deemed an anti-Christian curriculum. . . .

We give asylum to people all the time who simply don't want to return to Mexico after they came here illegally. They weren't being oppressed there or denied any fundamental rights that they wanted. They were just more poor there and didn't have government services there that they have here.

What is so terrible about a productive German couple being given asylum who want nothing from us other than the right to remove their children from an anti-Christian environment?

Public educators are held to a standard, so why should not the home educators.

You certainly have proven that you are clueless about the subject.

1. Example: "Public educators are held to a standard,.."

"NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It’s an education bombshell.

Nearly 80 percent of New York City high school graduates need to relearn basic skills before they can enter the City University’s community college system.

The number of kids behind the 8-ball is the highest in years, CBS 2′s Marcia Kramer reported Thursday."
Officials: NYC High School Students Entering CUNY Need Remedial Help « CBS New York

2. "Do you feel it is necessary to make them be accountable for the education of their children?"
Do you comprehend the last two words in your quote?

The Supreme Court has determined that there is not a government right to determine the education of children.
