As a liberal who is not a democrat, I can admit when democrats are in the wrong. However, you want libs to be fair for the sake of being fair, but no argument can be made that democrats caused this shut down. That is ALL Republicans fault.

Obama has good reason not to negotiate with terrorists. ACA is LAW. Obama is not obligated to make changes to ObamaCare under threat of this radical extortion. However, there is nothing wrong with negotiating over ObamaCare under different circumstances. When Republicans are ready to be adults, ObamaCare can be discussed.

As far as negotiating since the shut down began, the only fault I can find with democrats is when they were pushing for new spending measures. That was a serious dick move on their part. However, that seems to be a non issue because both republicans and democrats in the senate have come to compromise on the budget. To me, this speaks volumes about the politics in the senate.

Maybe you could make the argument that Obama and the dems should concede to the terrorist demands of making changes to ObamaCare for the sake of ensuring a debt deal is made, but in my opinion the dems have no obligation to. It was the Repubs in the House that started this mess. They are the ones who are taking the country hostage. Why should they get what they want?

You are really glossing over this public opinion issue over congress. Yes, the dems don't have a very favorable view with the American people, but there is no denying that the American people put the blame on the Repubs in the House. The disparity is huge. 74% of Americans polled blame the republicans.

Again, you want us to be fair for the sake of being fair, but it is absolutely ridiculous to assign equal blame to the dems. Are democrats capable of putting politics over what's best for the country? Yes of course. They have done it before. Have they in this case? No. You need to put this issue in perspective.

I'm going to give you a pass because everyone is entitled to a bad day now and then. Obama has taken a lot of deserved criticism from the left. He should never have allowed the hostage game to begin. He should have prosecuted Wall Street criminals and broken up the big banks. And most of all he should have stayed out of the pockets of the Larry Summers crowd and never got caught up in the farcical "grand bargain" nonsense. You see, Obama is a center-right president of a center-left nation with a reactionary right minority which has been calling the shots because they don't care how much damage they do to America if they can't destroy Obama.

So if anyone wants me to criticism Obama, I just did. He could have stopped this nonsense earlier if he had not tried to negotiate with the Republican Party. But he acted in good faith, which the House Republicans have never done and are not doing to this hour. You can blame whoever you like, for whatever reasons you like, but just be sure you don't try to argue that after declaring their sole goal was to destroy the Obama presidency, that the right reactionaries have any position to now lament that Obama will not rescue them from their self-inflicted destruction. When your proclaimed goal is to destroy people without regard to the cost to the nation, you forfeit the right to later ask to reason together.

I think that right wing extremism is inevitably on the road to annihilation and disgrace, much as the Klan of the 1920's was destroyed. Americans a decade from now will look back at these times with the same disgust they will have for lynchings. Good Americans are ashamed of this behavior and are repulsed by it. The answer is that those who shouted "Let them die!" in glee in the Republican debates and their Heritage Foundation ilk who today threatened to primary any House Republican who did not toe the absolutist line are not people any sane politician of any political persuasion, or any patriotic American who cares for their country and its people, would ever do business with again.

Prior to the government shut down the Democrats in the Senate passed several budget bills that were never brought up in the republican House. EIGHTEEN TIMES (18) THE DEMOCRATS ASKED THE HOUSE TO HELP FORM A BIPARTISAN COMMITTEE TO RESOLVE THE BUDGET PROBLEM BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT WAS SHUT DOWN. EIGHTEEN TIMES THE REPUBLICANS IGNORED THE SENATE'S REQUEST.
The republicans wanted to shut the government down.
The republicans were warned about what would happen if they shut the government down.
The republicans ignored the warning.
The republicans shut the government down.
The republicans cheered when the government was shut down.
Now the republicans are trying to pretend it was the Democrats who shut the government down.

I dont recall any downgrades while Bush was president. I dont recall any talks of the gov't defaulting when Bush was president. I dont even recall any of that in Obama's first year.
Obama's recovery has been worse than Bush's recession.

The fact is that the GOP is not there to rubber stamp Democrat policies. They were elected by constituents on a platform--just like the Democrats there--and they are carrying it out. That platform called for a repeal of Obamacare and a return to fiscal sanity. Spending 1.40 for every dollar you take in is not sanity.
The Dems' demands now are for MORE spending. They don't get it. They are like drunks at an AA meeting asking for just one more drink.
The GOP needs to declare there is no one to negotiate with and go home. The mess falls on the Dimocrats. Once they show some flexibility we can talk again.
