Congress has spent weeks griping that Obama had yet to lay out his strategy for combating Islamic State terrorists. But there are indications that while lawmakers want to be asked, they don’t want to act.

At a White House meeting scheduled for tomorrow, Obama will unveil his strategy -- details of which have been trickling out for weeks -- to top congressional leaders.

A vocal minority in Congress is insisting that lawmakers protect their right to have a say on the president’s use of war powers, yet there appears to be little appetite among most to giving Obama new, broad authority for more military action.

Congress Demands IS Framework With No Plan to Act on It - Businessweek

No votes scheduled.

Nearly three out of four voters said Obama should ask Congress for the authority to use additional military force and 82 percent said Congress should approve that request.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has been noncommittal on legislation proposed by Florida Democratic Senator Bill Nelson that would give Obama congressional authority to bomb Islamic State targets in Syria.

Boehner remains orange and silent..................................

Congress is a joke, when it comes to war, ever since they ran away from their constitutionally mandated war powers

Saw one congressman tonight describe the Middle East as Bush's "Pandora Box". He said Bush never should have "lifted the lid". Well, duh!

Whats ISL? and McConnell doesn't run the Senate
Islamic State of LEVANT*, and McConnell will not even comment on Nelson's bill. No action in the House, and Ted Cruz demands SOP on any measures against ISL.

*Levant is a region, the desire for an Islamic state does not include only two modern nations, the area stretches into Lebanon, and would obliterate Israel.

McConnell wants to hurry home to campaign, the President met with Congressional leaders TODAY. Cruz says he MUST have approval, and he & McConnell are obviously going to stonewall it.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said Saturday that President Barack Obama must seek Congressional authorization for U.S. strikes on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) if they continue.

And the Rs know that's true.

They won't act. If they did, they wouldn't be able to keep up their lie that Obama isn't doing anything.

Damn. I wrote down "Icelandic as a Second Language". Missed another one.

Obama waits until ISIS grows into what they are today, we could have easily destroyed them coming in from Syria in convoys of pickup trucks but Obama refused to get involved. Iraq wanted airstrikes early on, Obama refused to do it. the Kurds want heavy weapons to fight the Islamonazis, they haven't got it, and you speak out against McConnell? Selective outrage not very impressive actually

Lets see, Bush got Congressional approval for every act he did and you lot complained that was not enough. Now you claim Obama should just do what ever he wants with no consent from Congress. So basically if it is a Republican you expect him to follow the Constitution and the law of the land, if it is a democrat to hell with all that noise.

In fact you should probably take the U.S. flag away completely

All hell is breaking loose in any case; I read many clamoring for action....now, disagreement in Congress as to the President's authority. Cruz versus others:

But Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who is also considering a 2016 presidential run, said on ABC's "This Week" that any additional military action "should absolutely take congressional approval."

His colleagues in the House, however, didn't agree, saying the President has the constitutional authority to act without Congressional authorization.

The top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Peter King, R-New York, said, "I believe as commander in chief he has the absolute power to carry out these attacks."

Democratic Rep. Adam Smith of Washington agreed, saying the President doesn't need authorization but that "it would be better if Congress would authorize it."

He added, however, that it would be "extraordinarily difficult" to get through the partisan body, especially less than two months before an election.

Obama met with Congressional leaders yesterday; silence from McConnell, who wants to hurry back to the campaign trail, Cruz says approval is required. I am not not pleased with either branch, as I want US action against ISL; NOW. Senator Nelson worked for weeks on a Bill, and it is past time to implement further military 'measures'. Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan are all part of the dreamed of Levant.
