McConnell Wants the Filibuster Nuked

McConnell has admitted that it is hugely important to raise the Debt ceiling. He admits that it would be a disaster for the economy to not do so and yet he is using the filibuster to block the bill that would raise it.

He claims that Dems could use reconciliation (which under Senate rules can not be filibustered). The problem is that reconciliation is a huge bill and takes far more time than we have . McConnell knows this. He's an expert on Senate rules and procedures.

So what is he doing? He's gambling. He's pushing our economy to the edge of the financial cliff. He is betting that Republicans will take back Congress either in 2022 or 2024.

Dems are talking about "nuking" ONLY debt ceiling bills regarding the filibuster and leaving the rest in place. That would mean that Republicans can still block large parts of the Biden agenda.

McConnell will use that as an excuse to TOTALLY nuke everything and blame it on the Dems. That's what the cynical bastard did with Judicial Appointments. He blocked almost all of Obama's lower court judicial appointments and even Cabinet appointments. As a result Dems removed the filibuster for those appointments but left the filibuster in place for Supreme Court appointments.

McConnell used that as an excuse to nuke all judicial appointments. He'll do the same here

Dems will probably HAVE to nuke the filibuster for the debt ceiling but they'd be stupid to stop there. It will be gone anyway really soon and if THEY don't nuke it...they will have lost the opportunity to push through the Biden agenda.

Of course the stumbling point are the conservadems Sinema and Mancin who don't seem to know what party they represent.
So, you're saying that the Democrats are so stupid that they fell right into McConnell's trap? He told Democrats months ago that he would be against raising the debt ceiling if they tried pushing through the social infrastructure bill by reconciliation. McConnell didn't just spring this on them at the last second. I must also remind you that after the 2016 election, Republicans could have eliminated the filibuster (Trump even pushed McConnell to do so) and McConnell refused to. Why don't you give him any credit for that?

I must also remind you that both sides hammered out a BIPARTISAN bill on infrastructure. Bipartisan means both sides give and take and decide on something that both of them are both happy with and unhappy with. It doesn't mean that you then go and make a separate infrastructure bill so that, in the end, you get everything you want and you didn't have to compromise on anything. AOC and others loudly slam the centrists saying that if they vote for the centrist's bill then the centrists should vote for their bill. Does that mean that these progressives don't really want the first bill at all? They aren't doing the centrists any favors because the progressives want Both bills, not just one. Their claim is completely dishonest.

And let's not forget that it was Harry Reid who started this bullshit.

Republicans will nuke the filibuster at the first opportunity.

Do it now

Get the Biden Agenda through and signed and let the voters decide from there.

Short of that is disaster.

The Biden agenda stalls and they are guaranteed to lose elections
I agree, but imo the dems have to be very careful to explain specifically what they are achieving by nuking it. From what I've seen two years of comm college, expanding child tax credits and eitc, prescrpt drugs for medicare are all popular and pretty well understood.

The gop wins if either occurs 1) The dems can't close a deal 2) People don't understand the bill so the gop can win on the "pork" advertisements.

Gaslighting is the only way they can spin this. They have to create fear of republicans.

It is blatantly obvious. The dems have been calling to trash the filibuster for years and here Lesh is trying to pretend it is McConnell that is really the mastermind that wants to trash it. Same thing Biden tried to do with defund the police, oh it was the republicans that actually defunded the police. A load of bullshit.

Everyone knew the dems were going to try for a second bill. What the gop did was carve out most popular item the dems proposed, and make it bipartisan.

I'd agree there are provisions for spending in the dem bill that probably wouldn't get 45% approval with voters. And that's not even based on wishful thinking that Americans would oppose deficits.

But it'd probably be naive if I said that the senate could agree on an immigration bill that expanded on numbers, didn't give an official amnesty, and set a hard border with employer penalities for employing illegal workers.

What is funny is the gaslighting going on there. Now, nuking the filibuster for judicial appointment was all an evil plot by McConnel. They are absolutely unable to face the simple fact that it was Reid that took it down and proved that fucking with the senate rules to ignore the minority is a fucking horrible idea.

And here they are, pushing ahead and ignoring reality.
they can't even stand their ownselves.

Lesh probably doesn't know about Harry Reid. hahahahahahahahahahahaha he's afraid of his own party.

Filibuster used to be a rare occurrence

Since McConnell every piece of legislation requires 60 votes instead of a simple majority

Time to abandon all filibusters
The Dims used the filibuster 327 times in 2020, while the GOP used it once.

democrats-used-filibuster-over-300-times-gop-once

The timing is not right to get rid of it. When the timing is right, we want you soulless shitstains to choke on it like the Hairy Reed nuke debacle. Choke mother fucker...... CHOKE!

Trumps inept leadership during COVID cost him the election.

America flocked to support Bush after 9-11 because of strong leadership
Trumps attempts to minimize the COVID threat and pass the blame did not do him well in the election
If so, that is further indication of just how ignorant and gullible the electorate is.

I am not entirely in favor of the Biden agenda, nor was I in favor of a Trump agenda. I am for both sides compromising, and most Americans seem to want that outcome. The Republicans seem unable to compromise at this time and that will hurt them in 2022.

I am unsure it will. The right in particualr tends to prefer non-action and it is much easier to oppose than to support when trying to win over independents.

Actually, Trump was handed an easy path to a second term and he blew it
COVID was his path to victory. If only he showed leadership and a willingness to make tough decisions about COVID on behalf of the people…..they would have loved him

Mitch said no supreme court appointment before an election, Obama appointed Garland 292 days before election. Mitch blocked it. 46 days before the next election says the opposite approves new court member.
OK you may be happy that a Dem appointee was blocked and a Repub appointee was approved. Here is my point, if you approve of lying & cheating to win. Then what you get is more lying & cheating people in government, and what makes you think that they wont use that against You in the future. You gave them All permission to be Dishonest.

Don't know if it will hurt them, but agree with you on everything else, Maybe that's just wishful thinking that people want a return to some semblance of sanity.

McConnell is a naked, cynical, hypocritical partisan

He WILL nuke the filibuster the minute he gets control of the Senate

Yeah if there's a bill he wants. They could repeal Obamacare .... but didn't have 50 votes last time. He's not gonna touch immigration, because the influx of illegal aliens benefits his party.

He WILL try...

Might as well get as much of the Biden agenda through while possible.

Its a lot harder to take away stuff than pass it. There would be a cost if he touches the ACA...especially if Dems can make it work better in the mean time (which would also require nuking the filibuster)
