Minimum wage is already “livable”

State hospitals are run by states, not US Presidents.
Reagan ended federal funding making it impossible for states to keep their mental health services, specifically hospitals and other dedicated institutions operational.

Could you live off $10 per week? No you could not. There doesn’t have to be some scientific definition of liveable. You do get that right? There’s nothing wrong coming up with a number that will ease poverty. The min wage is low therefore it must be raised. This logic is simple.
And there's no need for Washington to do it. States, cities, and counties can set their own MW wherever they want to.

Being a plumber requires much more skill than using a plunger.
Truck Driving and Welding takes skill

I'm no genius by any stretch of the word, and drove a forklift successfully in the mid 1970's without any special training.

It isn't difficult. A fork lift truck is where I learned how to drive a stick.

Plumbing requires more skill. If you hire a plumber , be wary if the foreman for the crew is a little fellow with a sugar bowl haircut.

Skills are developed through practice. It takes effort. Genius is forged. People with limited IQ can learn to do a lot.
I couldn’t back an 18 wheeler into a tight spot
Welding takes a knowledge of metallurgy, math, and heating properties of different techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick)

Someone with a sub 80 IQ would struggle at both.

Absolutely. There are tons of people on the lower ends of the federal government, with high school educations, below-average IQs, and some modest computer skills, who are earning $60,000 and $70,000 a year, a have have a pension waiting for them.

The difference between them and the cashier at Target is a) a recognition that going for an office job has more potential, b) a few night classes learning basic typing and computer skills, and c) a good decision.

We are not talking about sub 80. We are talking about 90s, and flipping burgers. What’s stopping them from taking a class to learn some basic office skills and move into the lower-middle class?

People below 80 probably live in group homes with very close supervision.

Only a modest amount of smarts is needed to figure out out to drive and park a truck.

As far as welding is concerned, people who are welders weld the same metal and pipes together all of the time. They don't have to know metallurgy, just the techniques for the metal that they are working with every day.

They're going to raise wages and prices, it's inevitable.
They will as long as government keeps handing out all that free money. Once the government stops competing with small businesses, making it difficult for them to fill jobs, things will return to market rate.

Why are people so opposed to workers making a decent buck?

Who's against that? We've suggested repeatedly that people go out, find a career, get off the dope, and be worth more money. What we're opposed to is government forcing businesses to pay people more money than they're worth because they won't get off their lazy asses and do something for themselves.

Which is why you get training for these jobs. With no experience or training you couldn't back an 18 wheeler in an easy spot. But there are companies out there willing to teach you for free if you sign a contract with them stating you will work for a minimum of one year once they get you licensed. Or you can enter school and get trained which is between one and two months long depending on where you go, and again, they will guarantee you a job too.

Then you will be in a career where you're always in demand, and can make up to six figures depending on what kind of work you're willing to do. After you get a year or two experience, you can apply at a major carrier like UPS or FedEX for local work and start off at $28.00 an hour plus overtime and great benefits. The only floor you will ever sweep again is the one in your trailer. You can move anywhere in the country you want and never have to worry about getting work. You can go over the road and see the country while getting paid to do so.

People can learn things dude. Forklift drivers can make pretty good money. So can a mailman. How high of an IQ do you need for jobs like that?

Not high enough because the morons we have here are still illiterate and can't put the right mail in the right box.

They're not. They're opposed to the government artificially inflating costs. And, Washington doesn't have to set anything because states, cities and counties can set their own MW wherever they want.

Here in Pennsylvania, minimum wage can only be set on a statewide level. Counties, cities and townships don't have the authority to set up labor regulations or boards to enforce them. Local officials work on critical issues like road repairs, collecting rubbish, writing parking tickets and plowing snow. Not the relations between employers and employees, which are regulated by the Dept of Labor and Industry.
