Missouri House Republicans Vote To Defund Libraries

Are you from Missouri ? Florida, Texas, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, or some other blue state ? Sounds like it.

Florida, and yes, we have phones and computers here. Do you know how phones and computers relate to books now? Do you?

Sex education for 6 and 7th graders is pretty benign and generic. You're getting worked up over nothing less than bullshit propaganda.

The concept of "Sex education for 6 and 7th graders" is perverted. That's the last chance we have to enjoy life before it being taken over by pursuing sex, let them be

I wish this was a joke, but it isn't.

Missouri House Republicans voted to defund all of the state’s public libraries, in a proposed $45.6 billion state budget that will soon move to a vote in the GOP-controlled state Senate.

[snip]

Missouri House budget committee leader Rep. Cody Smith (R-Carthage) proposed cutting library aid due to a recent lawsuit filed against the state last February.

The lawsuit — filed by the ACLU of Missouri on behalf of the Missouri Association of School Librarians and the Missouri Library Association — seeks to declare Senate Bill 775 unconstitutional, a bill that has resulted in over 300 books getting banned from school libraries, many of which include LGBTQ characters or racial justice themes.

I guess those Republicans don't like reading. Especially their state Constitution:

Section 10. Free public libraries—declaration of policy—state aid to local public libraries.—It is hereby declared to be the policy of the state to promote the establishment and development of free public libraries and to accept the obligation of their support by the state and its subdivisions and municipalities in such manner as may be provided by law. When any such subdivision or municipality supports a free library, the general assembly shall grant aid to such public library in such manner and in such amounts as may be provided by law.
/----/ Libs don't ban books -- except when they do.
Until further notice, teachers in the Burbank Unified School District will not be able to include on their curriculum Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, Theodore Taylor's The Cay and Mildred D. Taylor's Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

Anything that eradicates the evil sickness out of society is a good thing.

Because of the inherent racism contained in those novels, no doubt. That's reasonable in today's increasingly racist society. The whole reason the KKK wore those robes was to keep their identity hidden. They knew it was wrong. Today, they March and act proud about it. We're going backwards in a lot of ways in this country and that's not helping anyone. I double checked they were removed because of racism.

Yes, it's a totally misdirected and confused, emotional move on their part. Sad but true.

So sad. I hope for more intelligent people and better people. If America fails it will be because of their attitudes and ignorance. Some people encourage that.

I was doing a little research and the whole issue was blown far out of proportion by these people, probably welcomed and needed to keep up their agenda of harassment. A review found that, " Material that is produced to illustrate sex education may be perceived by others as inappropriately erotic. So at best they could call it erotic art, not pornography. Materials presented for specific audiences shouldn't be viewed by " others ". Another case where outsiders need to mind their own business.

Not necessarily true. Liberals ban books that negatively impact society. Racism is just one of those ideas.Conservatives attempt to ban books they do not like and do not understand , mostly because those books weren't meant for them. That breeds ignorance which negatively impacts society.

Although puberty occurs around 11 for girls and 12 for boys. Girls can have puberty as early as 8 and boys as early as 9. For some waiting till 6th. and 7th. grade to begin sex education is already too late. The youngest child on record in the U.S. to become pregnant was only 10. 10 year olds are usually in the fifth grade
It was definitely too late for her.

Other than to get in out of the heat or cold, who uses them anymore?
