Mormon Church finally admits Joseph Smith had 40 wives

I know what a prophet is. I do not believe the leaders of your church are really prophets.
And I and the rest of the faithful Mormons DO believe it. So your claiming otherwise has no meaning to us.
But that's my point, not ALL Mormons believe the prophets are really prophets.

The prophets themselves KNOW that the prophets of the Mormon Church are not really prophets. The question is, how far down the chain of command does this knowledge go?

Do the bishops know?

Do the ward leaders know?

Do the prophets' office staff know?

Do the prophets' cleaning staff know?

Who is the highest member of the Mormon church who believes the prophets are really prophets?

Do you see now why the Mormon church has to operate with so much secrecy?

The biggest secret of all is that the Mormon Church is not guided by real prophets.

It was a very big mistake to set things up this way. All it takes is one prophet to admit the truth, and the entire Mormon church will collapse like a house of cards.

I agree with this completely. I lived in Las Vegas, which is politically controlled by Mormons, and I worked closely with many of them. I was struck by how reluctant they are to discuss any of the controversial beliefs that are outlined in the book of Mormon. In fact, I was struck by how reluctant they were to even MENTION the Book of Mormon. It was treated sort of like the elephant in the living room that nobody noticed.

I just watched an interesting documentary on PBS about how Mormon banks financed mafia owned casinos. I guess that's where they got a lot of their money to build those nice castles.

I just watched a documentary where Obama and his liberal minions lied to the nation and shoved through the travesty we know as Obamacare and harmed millions of people. Liberals seem proud of this awful deed that was committed through underhanded tactics. You of all people are in no position to judge - being a totalitarian is worse than being a mafioso.

You missed the part where millions more people now have healthcare, and even Republican's like their coverage.

Obamacare s Poll Numbers Improve In Republican Districts

Poll on Obamacare Medicaid Expansion Responses Change Without Label New Republic

Now, back to the topic. Mormons got rich off of dirty money. Hypocrites.

The Flamingo initially lost money and Siegel died in a hail of gunfire in Beverly Hills, California in the summer of 1947. Additionally, local police and Clark County Sheriff deputies were notorious for their heavy-handed tactics toward mobsters who "grew too big for their pants." However, many mobsters saw the potential that gambling offered in Las Vegas. From 1952 to 1957, through money and institutional lending provided by the Teamsters Union and some Mormon bankers they built the Sahara, the Sands, the New Frontier, the Royal Nevada, the Showboat, The Riviera, The Fremont, Binion's Horseshoe (which was the Apache Hotel), and finally The Tropicana.

Owned and operated by a joint combine of Mormon elders who provided political and business legitimacy and people involved with organized crime who provided unreported income and street muscle, such as Meyer Lansky these crime hotels became regarded as the epitome of gambling entertainment. Even with the general knowledge that some of the owners of these casino resorts had dubious backgrounds, by 1954, over 8 million people were visiting Las Vegas yearly pumping $200 million into casinos.

Blackrook, the way my Mormon friends consider your posts is that you are a deluded non-Christian.

None of you or your posts are rocking the LDS church in the slightest and you don't understand God or his Plan of Salvation by Mormon standards.

Yeah, there was racism, representative of the rest of white America for a long time.

The LDS church put it away almost forty years ago.

But we some attackers here was are racists, sexists, religionists.

Best walk away, folks.
Blacks were considered cursed by God and so could not hold office in the Church. That is not racism.
And it was all conveniently changed when a prophet decided it wasn't true any more.

you mean like how Peter decided the gospel should go to the gentiles as well has the Jews instead of just to the Jews? Or how the twelve taught the law of Moses no longer needed to be followed now that Christ died?

revelation is a vital element of the Church of Jesus Christ. Those who profess Jesus Christ and deny revelation do not know Him. Churches that deny revelation are not His no matter how sincere they are in trying to follow Him.

so why is God silent in your Church?

I do not see my opposition to Mormonism as a Christian pissing contest. The Mormon Church is not a Christian church. They are a non-Christian polytheistic religion that has not even the slightest adherence to standard Christian beliefs.

and we aren't supposed to speak out against lies like this. Read the Book of Mormon and explain how a book revealed to bring people to Christ I'd not Christian.

it's amazing how many people who pretend to be so sure they are right about Mormons are afraid to crack open the book of mormon and actually learn something about them. Must be easier to pontificate from a place of ignorance

The Mormon Church is a house of cards and all it would take would be a stiff breeze to knock it down.

I live in Las Vegas, so I have met many Mormons, mostly attorneys.

These men live the perfect Mormon life: a beautiful wife, beautiful four or five children, tithing, church events.

But I think about the fact that these men are attorneys, and they are trained to evaluate evidence critically and determine the truth.

How many of these men have done the analysis, and determined that the Mormon faith is a complete lie?

And yet, they keep up the pretense that they believe.

did it ever occur to you that these well educated men who are trained to look at, construct, and deconstruct arguments might know something you don't?

there is a reason that the more educated a Mormon is the more faithful he becomes contrary to almost all other religions

That's because he knows, as did J. Reuben Clark, that the conflicts in Mormonism, like all religions, in the end cannot be resolved.

Thus, Clark elected to rely on faith.

That's what all in theists and atheists do in the end.

Here is another chance for the Mormon Church to go legit. Joseph Smith was , at best, a crazy prophet a la John the Baptist (locusts and wild honey). Like all messengers, he got many of the details wrong. Recognize him for what he was (and wasn't), and bring the Church back to Christianity. You have a lot to offer.

Not a chance. The entire foundation of the church is based on an obvious fairy tale.

the whole church is based on the fact that Christ lives. Christ has been center day one. He is the chief cornerstone.

all anyone has to do is read the Book of Mormon and it becomes very obvious

The book of Mormon, that con artist Joe Smith wrote?

you can call him names all you want. Doesn't change the truth of what he taught. Nor does it invalidate his witness of Jesus Christ

I think you are missing the point: 1800 AD was not 1800 BC. Joseph Smith was assembling a concubine under the guise of spiritual guidance. If "plural marriage" was a commandment then, how can it be a sin now? If modern day elders can do away with the proscription against black "priests" and other absurdities, why can't they convene a "Council of Nicaea" and reorganize/edit the Book of Mormon as a credible addition to the Bible?

if Abraham offering his son Isaac was good then, why is it a sin if we offer our children up to be sacrificed?

if following the law of Moses was good before Christ why is it bad now?

why is it good for our children to have a cookie sometimes and they would get in trouble for taking one without permission.

God commands and revokes commands at His pleasure and according to His wisdom. If He says build an ark, we will build an ark. If He says dont build one we wont. If He says marry many and raise a posterity to Him, it's good. If He says cease and we continue that's bad.

the question is do we follow God as He speaks of do we try to silence Him

So, if God told you to sacrifice your children tomorrow, you would do it?

God was a, "mean motor scooter and a "bad go getter" in old testament days. Fortunately, he has mellowed out a lot since then....

But Avatar says..."God commands and revokes commands at His pleasure and according to His wisdom" and "the question is do we follow God as He speaks of do we try to silence Him."

God just told me that Avatar is off track, and that, actually, He is not pissed at anyone and thinks that we should all lighten up, and party....

no one said he is pisssed at people who think. But He does make it clear that He isn't happy with people who mock Him.

Is that why I have been getting these damned hangnails lately?

joey smith was a charlatan and in the most egregious and blatant of ways, too. geebus.

i liken mormonism to scientology.

The internet, which makes all information instantly available, may spell doom for the Mormon Church.

And? This was supposed to be a big secret or something? I don't follow Mormon goings on and even I already knew this.

aparently despite being quite public with plural marriage since the 1850s the nyt thinks this is the first time the church has admitted it publicly. Go figure

Who's mocking? I am dead serious. Joe Smith was a con artist. But in all fairness, his make-believe Bible was inspired by a make-believe Bible.
