If a candidate is democratically elected, the criticisms fall on the process, not the one elected. Democracy is the threat to democracy, in other words. It is also the way to assure democracy. It can go in any direction.
In school, we used to have a required course called "Problems of Democracy", P.O.D. It was very instructive.

I is old-----I have worked with and socialized with Pakistanis living in the USA since age 14. ----
AISHA is an advocate for "people of color"???
yeah rite. I never met a single Pakistani who did
not express RACISM at some level--including color of skin. Of course lots of it is silly----like "OUR KASHMIRIS ARE FAIR IN COMPLEXION" which
somehow makes them "better than" Dravidian hindus ------or something like that. To be fair----
Hindu Indians tend to be very color conscious too---
