One man brought more fear to the country than the entire GOP in the last 40 years

I remember when John McCain was laughed at for saying he knew how to fix the economy and he would if he were elected president.

Donald Trump built a bleak and dark picture of an America that thankfully doesn't exist. Unless he is elected president.

It was an hour and a half of this:

Terrorists are pouring into our country. They are everywhere. In your backyard, on every street corner and they want to kill you. And Mexican rapist drug dealers are pouring in from across the border who want your jobs and they want to kill you. The infrastructure is falling apart. The bridges are falling down. The roads are falling apart and the sky is falling. Police are being shot everywhere and there is no law no order. The bodies of dead Americans are piling up everywhere killed by terrorists and Obamacare.
But don't worry. I know how to fix everything. Elect me and I will fix everything. I will cut taxes and pour money into everything and fix it.

And every word of it screamed at the top of his voice.

So the camera is moving around the hall and people are asked what they thought of Trump's speech and they reply, "It's exactly what I wanted to hear" "It's what is going on in this country". "Donald Trump will save us".

I don't live in this America.

This is the America I live in:

What Caused the Great Crime Decline in the U.S.?

Then crime rates went down. And then they kept going down.

By decade’s end (the 1990's), the homicide rate plunged 42 percent nationwide. Violent crime decreased by one-third. What turned into a precipitous decline started later in some areas and took longer in others. But it happened everywhere: in each region of the country, in cities large and small, in rural and urban areas alike. In the Northeast, which reaped the largest benefits, the homicide rate was halved. Murders plummeted by 75 percent in New York City alone as the city entered the new millennium.

The trend kept ticking downward from there, more slowly and with some fluctuations, to the present day. By virtually any metric, Americans now live in one of the least violent times in the nation’s history.

-------------------------------------

What is it about Republicans that they want to be terrified? Life is better and there is less pressure if you are not terrified.

You can go outside. No one from Chicago is going to kill you. Isis isn't hiding behind your back door.

Trump has convinced people they should be terrified to even go outside. But is that really any surprise?

Trump is known for his ability to fleece the unwary. He has a court date on 28 Nov for Fraud and Racketeering. If he loses his civil case, he opens himself up for criminal charges. If people aren't scared now and Trump becomes president, I think they will learn what real fear is all about.
In his acceptance speech Trump said, "Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it."

Really? A man who has never set foot in the Oval Office and has never been in either house of congress on business knows the system better than anyone.

Apparently Donald doesn't know the system quite as well as he thinks he does. If he did, he certainly wouldn't be claiming that he alone can fix the system because the founders designed the system such that no one would have that kind of power.

Ah, pretty sure Trump was talking about our "economic system", Flopper! Hard to dispute that.

As for the political system? Anyone who thinks a billionaire businessman doesn't have knowledge about how our political system works is rather naive.

There are nations where it's common for parties to declare how they're going to jail their political opponents.

Used to be, the USA was not one of them. Trump changed that.

Nice going, Trump fans. You've dragged the USA down to the level of third-world banana republics. You Trump fans suck at being Americans.

Are you afraid, rdean?

Gawd, I hope so. I hope you people are terrified.

Actually I hope then know they have nothing to worry about. As they predicted with the nomination Trump can't possibly win. They might as well stay home.
I am still hoping against hope that the GOP will at least retain control of the Senate.

But I fear that they (the GOP) have blown it so bad now with this Casino Pirate that they (the GOP) will lose everything in November.

Then divided government goes out the window.

How very odd that those who claim that Trump painted an incorrect bleak picture will turn around and say that the Republicans painted that bleak picture. Which is it?

Good thing Trump will never win the nomination.

It's the RNC convention where the course for the Republican Party is set for the next year. Most of the speakers have said the same things. To say that Trump and the party are somehow separate after this week is kind of dopey.
With only a few exceptions ever speaker at the convention has endorsed Trump. You can see the Trump opposition in the empty seats, previous presidents, governors, senators, and house members.

Ah, one of the defining characteristics of a "banana republic" is that the rule of law doesn't apply to those in power.

Lying big and making up fake crimes to pin on your political opponents is a hallmark of Stalinism, and of Trump fans.

All Trump fans are now proud Stalinists, and the nation would be better off if they'd leave. Trump fans, you'd probably be happier in North Korea or Cuba, being how they use your methods.

Trump did a good job of cherry picking statistics. The U.S. murder rate last year hit the lowest level since 1966 as the number of serious crimes committed nationwide fell for the eighth year in a row, the FBI said today.
Murder Rate Drops to 33-Year Low

European countries actually do that, so.....

Nobody on the Right cares about what goes on in South Chicago. Just trying to visualize Trump supporters wringing their hands over Chicago violence is enough to make one fall out of one's chair from laughter.
well we sure damn well know the libs don't care. how long the city been run by the dems?

I am sure that the republicans have a secret plan to stop drug dealing, gangsters, illegal gun sales, and poverty in South Chicago. They just don't want to share that plan because they have it copyrighted.

Coming from the same people that have blamed absolutely everything that happened in the entire last 8 years on Bush. I guess Bush must have been 'god' too.
W was a dope snorting frat boy that waltzed under a lucky star and ended up in The White House then fokked up the entire middle east as well as giving more tax cuts to the rich than they have ever had in all of human history.

W was a demon. Not a god.
Not only that, the GOP blackmailed Obama into extending the Bush Tax cuts. They knew he couldn't stand millions of Americans suffering and he knew they would do it at the drop of a hat. Republicans don't care about other Americans. And the ignorant base doesn't care it's them who gets screwed.

Unemployment benefits: not until Bush tax cuts pass, Senate GOP says

Obama extended the Bush tax cuts because people from his own Party told him flat out that if he raised taxes and the economy slowed down even further...that they would all lose their jobs! GOP blackmail? That's amusing...
Even further? The economy would slow even further? Further than what? Since the first Bush tax cuts?

Jesus, R-Derp...have you been sleeping through the past seven years? Obama has yet to have economic growth topping 3%. He averages right around 2%. As much as he would have LOVED to increase taxes it's quite obvious that he was told by many of his Democratic cohorts that doing so would slow an already moribund economy to the point where a double dip recession might very well be the result in which case they wouldn't be able to get elected dog catcher let alone to national office!

LOL. One data point and you conclude the past 7 + years are bad. You must have been drunk from Jan. 2001 and stayed drunk until Jan 2009 - we didn't get out of the recession until Obama had been in office 10 months.

When will you guys stop trying to rewrite history, too many of us were alive and experienced the fiasco in both foreign and domestic matters under Bush&Co.

or their not involved. Right? You think the dems want them to show their party up? Give me a break. In order to stop it, profiling would be necessary, and you all hate that. It works though. Since it has been removed from the police, well, it's getting worse again. 60 shootings in Chicago over 4th of july. Does that seem reasonable to you?

Western democracies do not. If I'm wrong, prove it!

us rewriting history? How many things did Bush get blamed for? oh yeah, everything. The dog's food, the bad service at restaurants, etc, etc, etc.

I think he spoke a lot of hard truths. However i guess those opposing him will call that 'fear.' But sometimes fear isn't an all bad thing.

Reality is sometimes frightening. Especially if your world view is based on a fantasy.
Freedom is messy, chaotic and risky. But it's better than the alternative.

How much Freedom do you believe is in the phrase, Law and Order?

Let's be honest here, Wry...it's hard to feel "free" when you're afraid to leave your house! Just saying...

I suppose it is hard to feel afraid. I'm not afraid to leave my house, are you?

Deregulation, or lax regulations may have resulted in foodborne illnesses. But I don't recall G. W. being blamed for that, he was blamed for being incompetent, and under the control of Cheney until too late - he may have had a more successful presidency had he selected someone else other than The Dicks (cheney and dumbsfeld).

To his credit, G.W wised up but it was too late, and history will judge him as very poor.

When he said he knew how the system works, he did so with a wink and a nod; his experience was using money (and ...?) other enticements to get members of boards, legislatures and possibly the Congress to give him what he wanted.

[...other enticements are usually female companionship or jobs for kin]
