Great Grandfather joined the Illinois 11th infantry in 1861, fought at Fort Donaldson, Shiloh, and many other engagements all the way to New Orleans where he mustered out in 1866. The Confederacy fought for the privilege of enslaving their fellow man. Hardly a thing to be proud of.
