Pelosi Suggests Delaying State of the Union

My link is from a Mexican paper and it says 15,000.

Now all of a sudden the Mexicans are trustful and reliable.

Wow, this is what being a partisan hack does to a person, they have to change their views on things based solely on how it impacts their chosen party.

I'm just telling you what the paper said.

Another Caravan on the Way: 15,000 Heading North but Destination Is Chiapas - American Renaissance

Here's another. It says they are headed for Chiapas. Not sure where that is and hope its not anywhere near our border. +

According to the map, Chiapas is the Mexican state that borders Guatemala.

Well here's hoping they don't head for our border. I doubt Mexico will be happy to have another 15,000 assholes in their country since the first batch trashed Tijuana.

If they are smart they will have their Army at the border ready to turn them all back.

Please note the following:
"The SOTU address fulfills rules in Article II, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution, requiring the President to periodically "give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient."[1] During most of the country's first century, the President primarily only submitted a written report to Congress. "
"What began as a communication between president and Congress has become in effect a communication between the president and the people of the United States. Since the advent of radio, and then television, the speech has been broadcast live on most networks, preempting scheduled programming."
Source: State of the Union - Wikipedia

Therefore the SOTU speech by the president is now a necessity to America and it's citizens. Pelosi may attempt every and anything to prevent the president from speaking to the 'People' for political reasons. I don't think Pelosi can prevent DJT.

Sure she can. If she does, she’s stupid.
Just like if the President wanted to, he could seal the White House and prevent a bill from reaching his desk and pretend that the Congress never sent it.

We just haven’t sunk that far as a nation.

Yet.

If the Capitol Building in Washington isn't secure, have it in the Orange Bowl. Not terribly far from the Winter White House in Palm Beach. Give 70,000 Americans an opportunity to see their President live.

Yes it is. You think the Congressmembers themselves read the bills they vote on? Puhleeze. They have staffers who read and research them, and then submit a summary brief.

Not true.

What Is Daily Life Like for a Member of Congress or Congressional Staffer?

You have, of course, the member of Congress at the top. He or she will be advised by—and delegate most office functions to—a chief of staff, who will usually be based in Washington but will divide time between the capital and the congressional district. (Some chiefs of staff are based in the district.) From here, there’s a splitting of functions:

  • Constituent-specific work (e.g., identifying federal programs to assist constituents) is delegated out to a district office, the member’s back-home base. It will be led by a district director (sometimes the same as the chief of staff) and a handful of casework specialists. Sometimes, the communications director is also based in the district office.
  • Policy-specific work (e.g., developing legislation) takes place in the Capitol offices. A legislative director (LD)—just below the chief of staff in the hierarchy—leads a small team of legislative assistants (LA) who have diverse policy portfolios. The LAs are responsible for keeping abreast of major issues and all legislation within their portfolios and providing advice to the LD, chief of staff, and member on votes and how these issues may impact the member’s constituents. Other positions in the Washington office include the communications director, a legislative correspondent (responsible for responding to constituent letters), the member’s scheduler, and some staff assistants and interns (unpaid or given a token stipend).
Did you really think that the Congressmembers themselves read every word of every multi-thousand page piece of proposed legislation that comes along?

Reading bills is one part of their job. I would hope they would have a staff for that.
That the staff “does everything” for them is still not true.

Not really what I said, although I appreciate you admitting I was right, even while trying to pretend you aren't admitting that.

You said "They have their staffers do everything else for them.”. Perhaps I’ll buy you a mirror so you can debate yourself. I would advise low lighting though because it’ll probably break when you look at it.

Yeah, or maybe you could just buy the next panty size up, so they don't get wedged up your ass so easily.

No one was denigrating the blessed Congressbeings you worship, numbskull. It is simply a fact that they already have staffers to help with or outright do everything else that goes with maintaining Congressional office, other than appearing in chambers and addressing the media, obviously. I didn't say that was a bad thing. So why would anyone expect them to personally handle any of the technology requirements that might come up?

YOU just jumped to the conclusion that your heroes were being attacked, and sallied forth to defend their alleged honor without thought, the way you make all your posts.

This is an example of how the Status Quo has set things up to hold the country hostage. Homeland Security functions such as border control and the Coast Guard should be essential services that are funded. Ask Congress why they did't fund them.

because neither them nor the POTUS give a fuck, it is all about politics and winning the pushing contest at recess.
That's not quite true. The President has provided cogent arguments in support of the smart fence and the Democrats have provided nothing of substance to support their opposition to it. In fact, the Democrats did not take a hard turn against it until Trump was nominated.

The POTUS had two years of full control of Congress and did not push for the wall...he waited till the Dems held the House...why is that?
Again, that's simply not true. He has been pushing the smart fence since day one of his presidency, and he tried to reason with the Democrats to no avail, so we now have a shutdown that will last until support for the smart fence, which is steadily growing, forces the Democrats to seek a face saving way of backing down.

How many spending bills did he sign without when he had both Houses of Congress? Why did he not shut it down then?
No bills would have reached his desk if the Democrats in the Senate had opposed them.

And....now no bills reach his desk if the Dems in the House oppose them...nothing has changed but now after 2 years it is a security crisis...what a load of crap.

Why go to such extremes, when all the president has to do is veto any Bill he believes is detrimental to America. Please note that Obama closed the White House (The Peoples House) to the public totally.

Not at all. Before, the President was just a few Senate votes short of being able to get the funding for the smart fence passed, but now with the Democrats in control of the House, there is no possibility such a bill will ever reach the Senate, different tactics are necessary.

***Mods, please move this to the appropriate “catch all forum” if necessary. I don’t know if you guys are still doing that or not****

In a letter, House Speaker Pelosi asked the President to re-consider the date for the SOTU.

View attachment 240444

Terrible idea.
It's not required by the Constitution every year, and Trump has nothing of merit to say.

Both are true. However it’s the accepted norm to have the executive there every year. Citing security concerns is silly.

In one of his books, Tom Clancy talks about a 747 hitting the Capitol at the time of the SOTU (Debt of Honor I think it was). All the normal security for a SOTU would not stop that. Other than that though? Nancy is being stupid.

It's especially silly since palousey never asked DHS if they had any problems with security. Palousey is just playing politics.

Actually he can't do that, if he doesn't act on a bill, it takes effect automatically, as if he signed it.

Then why didn’t he want the $25 billion Democrats offered him a year ago?
Now Fawn you went and spoiled their day

Not all of us. I have xyr on ignore.

Why should Trump cramp his pants over the SOTU address? He probably prefers a delay until the shutdown is resolved anyway.

I doubt he really cares about the speech, but he's not used to people telling him he can't do what he wants. This is her way of saying fuck you.
Agree. This is getting good. Too bad he doesn't take advice from Mitch & Lindsay, he'd stand a better shot at winning. Nancy and Chuck don't care what happens to the country as long as they think they are winning with their base.

Getting good???

Idiot, this shutdown is contracting our economy by 0.1% GDP evey week (administration's own estimate) and it's cost to the Federal government is quickly aproaching THE FULL COST OF WHAT TRUMP HAS SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT OVER.

To put this into simple terms: A Ham Sandwich would at this point be doing 4 Billion dollar better deal than our current "Deal Artist" in the the White House.
Nancy and Shumer should of gave Trump the money in the begining. We would have part of the wall and goverment would've never shut down.

Yea that’s what they will do going forward - roll over and give Trump whatever he wants
Trump wanted the money last year, he gave in. But said it wouldn't happen again. Anyway the shut down is costing close to the 5 billion he was asking for. So proof democrats don't really care about wasting money. Take over congress and waste billions of dollars, keep it. You will give Trump the presidency in 2020.

A call to the White House visitors information line directs callers with scheduled tours to contact the congressional office that arranged it. Congressional offices say they were informed that tours have halted during the shutdown and that people who had scheduled tours are getting cancellation notices.

Nancy Pelosi is just bitch slapping Doofus Donald and giving the immature little-spoiled brat a lesson in American Constitutional government.

Yes, I'm not really surprised that tour guides qualify as "non-essential services".

The legal transcription company I work for has federal government agencies as most of its larger clients. Some of them shut down immediately, and others have been steadily ramping down their activities each week. At least one, we've been having to store all of their transcripts because, while they've been in session, their mail room is closed and we can't ship to them.

her and schumer can always go on for 10 minutes after that and get their bitching at trump in.

it worked for them so well last time.

Then why didn’t he want the $25 billion Democrats offered him a year ago?
From the first days of his administration, Trump stated that he wanted to find a fair resolution to the so called "Dreamers" and he offered to give them and many more illegals who are already here a path to citizenship in exchange for funding for the fence, but the Democrats insisted he also abandon his plans for immigration reform as a condition for the funding, and that he refused to do. The President laid out his proposal in a State of the Union address, so if all the Democrats wanted was a path to citizenship for the "dreamers" the deal would have been done over a year ago.
Actually, what trump wanted to do was to gut legal immigration...

Trump’s swap: Citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers, legal immigration gutted
