If 500,000 people leave per year, and nobody else ever comes in, it will take 80 years before California is empty. By then you won't care. People who can't handle living here should leave. This sounds like New York. Cuomo and Horchul both told conservatives to leave the state. They did. Now New York has seen it's tax base move to Florida.

California has always been expensive. It didn't just start being expensive yesterday. If you want to retire here, you have to make plans so that can happen. Nobody is going to guarantee you a place to retire in California just because you worked here. What state does that?

it wasnt like that 30 years ago....all these people leaving started at the turn of the century,it really started around 2007.....back in the 80's and 90's very few changes of address that i got were people moving out of state,most were for other parts of California...... you just reaffirmed the elitist attitude i was talking about....

I think they go south in the winter to FL to avoid the ice and snow. Not just from NY either, and many go back in the summer for the reasons you mentioned. But when they retire, a lot more of them stay in FL.
