PETITION: Voters target Electoral College members to switch their Trump ballots, elect Clinton

Since Comey and Facebook "fake news" cost Hillary the election - electors have a chance to correct this horrific injustice against our electoral process on December 19.

Holy crap. Trump winning has driven you completely insane

Sort of like a bunch of people on the decks of ships in Boston Harbor throwing bales of tea into the sea?

Ironically, Trump is your best bet by far to shake up the power structure that you're so upset about. Hillary, by contrast, was the extreme status quo insider who would make no waves at all.

Electoral College: Make Hillary Clinton President on December 19

On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine - which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!

We are calling on the Electors to ignore their states' votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?

Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic.

Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President.

Hillary won the popular vote. The only reason Trump "won" is because of the Electoral College.

But the Electoral College can actually give the White House to either candidate. So why not use this most undemocratic of our institutions to ensure a democratic result?

SHE WON THE POPULAR VOTE.

There is no reason Trump should be President.

"It's the 'People's Will'"

No. She won the popular vote.

"Our system of government under our Constitution says he wins"

No. Our Constitution says the Electors choose.

"Too many states prohibit 'Faithless Electors'"

24 states bind electors. If electors vote against their party, they usually pay a fine. And people get mad. But they can vote however they want and there is no legal means to stop them in most states.

You ass-hats tried this with Gore too.

Good luck.

Nope. Wrong, as usual.

Bush v. Gore (2000)
dotted_line.gif

In Bush v. Gore (2000), a divided Supreme Court ruled that the state of Florida's court-ordered manual recount of vote ballots in the 2000 presidential election was unconstitutional. The case proved to be the climax of the contentious presidential race between Vice President Al Gore and Texas Governor George W. Bush. The outcome of the election hinged on Florida, where Governor Bush led Vice President Gore by about 1,800 votes the morning after Election Day. Because the returns were so close, Florida law called for an automatic machine recount of ballots. The recount resulted in a dramatic tightening of the race, leaving Bush with a bare 327-vote lead out of almost 6 million ballots cast. With the race so close, Florida law allowed Gore the option of "manual vote recounts" in the counties of his choosing. Gore opted for manual recounts in four counties with widespread complaints of voting machine malfunction: Broward, Miami-Dade, Volusia, and Palm Beach. However, Florida law also required that the state's election results be certified by the Secretary of State, Katherine Harris, within seven days of the election (by November 14, 2000). Three of the four counties, frantically laboring through the tedious manual recount, were unable to complete the process by the deadline."""""

Florida law also prohibited recounts in favored districts. But the liberal Florida courts allowed it to go on anyway. If you do recounts in 3 Democrat districts, you have to do 3 recounts in Republican districts as well.

If this doesn't work, then it will only be a
Gee, what sore losers you people are.

Yup. Shittingbull just can't believe Hillary lost so she posts all these threads about how she won the popular vote and how things will change.

Hate to tell the dumbass this but Trump won and on January twentieth he will be sworn in as the forty fifth President of the United States.

Wonder if it finally will sink in that Hillary lost and Trump won.

No, this won't stop. It will never stop until Trump leaves office in four or eight years.

After Trump is sworn in, then you'll hear them talk about impeachment or Trump wanting to quit because it's too hard. If Trump does a great job, they will be telling us how it was DumBama's ideas that matured after Trump was elected, even though they've been telling us these last 8 years that Republicans in Congress is what stopped DumBama from creating a great economy. And if he does well, then we will have to go through this all over again in another four years when Trump gets reelected.

Here's the first problem a Trump presidency is going to experience: He doesn't want to be in the White House. He wants to rule (and he will try to rule, not lead) from his glass house in the middle of Manhattan. It's a security nightmare, if you are familiar with the location of Trump Tower. And it's also a logistical nightmare, because the main artery through NYC is 5th Avenue. ANY time a POTUS has been in Manhattan it completely fucks up the street traffic, which fucks up the subway, tunnel and bridge traffic, which fucks up the city until the POTUS goes back to D.C.

Trump lost to Hillary in Manhattan by 87%. Not a typo. New York did not want their native son in office. And now he's going to fuck up things even more for these neighbors and workers since he deigns to think the White House is not suitable digs for him and his churlish bunch of brats and soft-porn star wife. Got it?

I don't know. Bush spent a lot of his time working at his Texas ranch. Didn't seem to be a problem.

So you're all worried about traffic problems because Trump is lives in New York. Do you know who else lives in New York????

No, losers go to online message boards and use pointy-headed avatars of guys pointing guns. Compensate much?

Well you know something, I won't get arrested for my avatar. I won't cause millions of dollars to taxpayers because of my avatar. My avatar won't hurt people or cause them great distress because the ambulance couldn't get past the lowlifes blocking the streets.

Who's the loser now?

While it's true that the US is a republic, this constant refrain when it comes to the presidential election is silly. There are many, many elections which are based solely on popular vote. That doesn't mean we no longer have a republic. If the president were elected by popular vote, that wouldn't mean we would no longer have a republic.

The electoral college is not the only thing that makes the US a constitutional republic.

Maybe not, but certainly a part of it.

We can't change the system every single time a Democrat loses the presidency. We changed it after Gore. Most everybody across the land had to get rid of their punch card ballots even though they were pretty reliable. After Kerry lost, everybody with a voting machine made my Diebold had to get rid of those too because of some phony unproven allegations that the machines were rigged for Bush. Now get rid of the college?

It's getting silly already. Our baseball team lost the world series, but we didn't demand the league change the rules because our starting pitching was just worn out and didn't have enough days to rest because of our pitching injuries, we just accepted the loss and will live to fight another day.

If the next Democrat contender loses to a Republican because they were greatly outspent, will they be asking for spending limits next because our guy had too much money to blow?

It's got nothing to do with a Dem losing. I didn't want Trump or Hillary. I'm also not expecting the electoral college to be changed. I'd like it to be, though. I wish more states would take the route of splitting up the votes to some degree like Maine and Nebraska.

I agree that the idea of changing the system because Trump won is ridiculous. I think the system should be changed because the winner-take-all electoral system we have now ensures the two big parties will remain in control.

Getting rid of or changing the electoral college is only getting attention now because of unhappy Democrats, but it has been an issue for quite some time.

It shouldn't be. If you look at the electoral map, what you are saying is all the people in those tiny blue sections should be able to pick the President for the mostly huge red sections.

A Congress peson represents a part of their state. A Senator represents half of his or her state. But a President represents the entire country.

We would be doomed as a country if only people in California, New York, and cities like Chicago picked our President each and every time. It would make no sense for anybody else to vote.

Who says only people in those places would determine the president? That seems to rely on the assumption that those people would all vote the same way.

From everything I have read, including this election, only 5 times has a president been elected while losing the popular vote. That's 5 out of 58 elections. More than 90% of our presidential elections have already followed the popular vote.

It could be argued that only people in the battleground states pick the president with the current system. It could also be argued that people in some states get more representation than others with the current system, as the ratio of electors to population is not uniform. As it stands now, does it "make sense" for a Republican to vote in California? A Democrat to vote in Texas? An independent to vote anywhere? The EC doesn't seem to solve the problems with popular vote so much as shift them around a bit.

First of all, the population of a state like Idaho is about 1.5 million. New York city? Almost 9 million. So when you combine states that have large cities that have those populations, you have a small number of states with those cities deciding on the President for the entire country. After all, it would take six states like Idaho to equal the amount of people in one city like New York.

So it wouldn't make sense for the citizens of those states to vote. They would lose no matter how they voted unless most were liberals like those in New York.

Because the President is the president of all states, all states should have some kind of equal say in the matter. As I posted earlier, when our federal government was formed, it was thought that representatives should equal the size and population of a state. Great if you live in Texas--bad if you live in Rhode Island. So they also incorporated a Senate where there was equal representation for all states since all states get two Senators.

The point is, getting rid of the EC would be very similar to getting rid of the US Senate, and just relying on Congress to make all our laws in the country. Again, great if you live in California, bad if you live in Idaho.

Wow. The butt-hurt runs deep with this one.

And I will state again, as an Alaskan, if we get rid of the EC I will throw all of my monetary weight into succession from the USA because I refuse to become a slave state of California, New York, or Texas. I live in an EQUAL state. Alaska was used, abused, and discriminated against by the US government for many many years. The state made moves toward becoming a state in 1920, but RNC and DNC equivalents fought it because they wished to continue to exploit the states resources and feared which side of the red/blue scale Alaska would lean. The state fought until 1959 to become a self-governing state. To hell that we are going to go back to those days of being a mere possession of wealthy barons from the lower 48. Sadly it was a mistake, we should have jumped ship when we had the chance...

Little did we know that the Feds would instead turn to a new method of abuse and discrimination in labeling the majority of our state a national park, thereby locking up our state resources and /forcing/ us into compliance with their lower 48 ideals and /guilty conscious/. In fact, we have raised issue since 1973 regarding our status as a /sovereign nation/ because the vote of us into statehood was flawed. We have attempted to succeed from the US on a number of occasions, the most recent being in 2013 when Yuakutsk pitched a fit over Obama's support of gay marriage (argument of religion is largely without merit IMHO but the point stands that succession has been debated on numerous occasions due to the forced rules by the lower 48 that conflict directly with our state constitution and cultural/religious values protected within the Alaska Constitution.)

The most contentious argument(s) between Alaska and the US Government are contained in Alaska's Constitution:

Article I - The constitution begins by establishing the basic rights of Alaska's citizens. Much of Article I essentially reiterates the United States Bill of Rights, but includes several original provisions. Section 3 bans discrimination based on "race, color, creed, sex, or national origin". Section 7, which largely mirrors the Due Process protections under Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment, extends protection to "persons to fair and just treatment in the course of legislative and executive investigations", a reaction against McCarthyism. Section 22 establishes the right to privacy; the Alaska Supreme Court has interpreted this to protect, among other things, home possession of small amounts of marijuana (see Ravin v. State, 537 P.2d 494 (Alaska Supreme Court 1975). )."

Article XV Sec 24 Ordinance No 3 - Ordinance No. 3 outlawed the use of fish traps in commercial salmon fishing. This issue had special significance in territorial Alaska. Fish traps, usually operated by Outside-owned canneries and widely blamed for the near-collapse of the salmon fishery, were seen as a symbol of exploitation of Alaska by absentee commercial interests. Former territorial Governor Ernest Gruening alluded to the issue in his keynote address to the convention: The people of Alaska have repeatedly and unchangingly manifested their overwhelming opposition to fish traps. [...] But fish trap beneficiaries, residents of the mother country, want to retain their Alaska traps. So the traps are retained. And it is the power and authority of the federal government which retains them. In a clear-cut issue between the few, profiting, non-colonial Americans and the many, seriously damaged, colonial Alaskans, the state-side interest wins hands down.

Alaska will /not/ stand for being overrun by liberal ideals in high population states as would be dictated by a majority rule election. I am /not/ the only one in Alaska who would throw money behind an effort to break free of such an oppressive system. We came into statehood looking to self-govern, if you want to take that away by mob rule then we will rebel.
