I have always had problems with "Lead us not into temptation," and believe that "do not let us fall into temptation” is a much accurate translation.

Most people do not pray consciously and consicentiously, imo. For instance, most do not understand that they are asking God to forgive their sins [just as in proportion] they forgive those who sin against them.

IOW, people are asking God to forgive as they forgive others. They better think that through.

I do not see God offended by either version, it is our hearts God sees.

God will smite you if you mess with his Word in order to befuddle people, however.
