A familiar colloquialism is “let kids be kids.” But of course, not all kids are granted this privilege. Tamir Rice certainly was not afforded this privilege. Trayvon Martin was not afforded this privilege. Dajerria Becton was not afforded this privilege. The Black and brown children racially profiled on my neighborhood listserves are not afforded this privilege. Children who do not have their basic needs met due to poverty are not afforded this privilege.

I want my children to explore, play and enjoy the world around them. I also want them to understand that injustice exists. If I am unwilling to unveil how systems of oppression work, I’m playing into the notion that my children’s innocence is more fragile and more important than other children who do not have the option to have their innocence preserved. White supremacy lives on through this choice.

More black people are criminals than whites in proportion. More blacks disobey police order in proportion than whites. Therefore more blacks will get shot than whites by proportion.

Charging towards a police officer after trying to disarm him earlier in his cruiser is no reason for a police officer to shoot such an out of control person? How was Freddy Gray murdered? The courts didn't see it that way, and neither did the investigation. In fact a witness in the same vehicle with him stated that Gray was out of control and pounding his head into the side of the wall.

He did not have his hands up and forensics determined that.

Do this: raise your hands in the air like Brown supposedly did. Now have somebody and take a stick and touch your shirt where a bullet may have entered. Now lower your arms while the stick stays in that place. See what happened there? The shirt moved.

If the bullet holes in the body line up with the shirt when the suspects arms are down, it means his arms were down when the officer shot. If the bullet holes in the shirt are lower than the bullet holes in the body when the suspects arms are down, it means his arms were raised when the officer shot at him.

And no, all of those witnesses did not say his arms were up. A couple who didn't lie about it told police he was charging towards the officer with his arms down, and yes, these were black witnesses that confirmed the officers account of exactly what happened.

When a police officer tells you to freeze, it means don't move a muscle. If you do make a sudden move, it doesn't matter whether you have a machine gun or a knife, that officer sees your move as a threat and has every right to respond in self-defense.

The problem is people like you live your life through the lens of race. The rest of us don't think that way. You wake up in the morning consumed with race, you go through your workday with race on your mind, you watch television at night with the thoughts of race, and you go to bed at night and dream of racism.
