President Putin issues New Year message to President Trump, calls for "pragmatic cooperation"

Pragmatic cooperation is the right term and it can be applied to any country in the world.

The problem with Russia, like China, is that they have vastly different systems and their eyes on global dominance, not just regional. As such, you can never have full trust, nor should you. Some military intervention against terror is a prime example in which they have limited agreement and cooperation.

Russia and China do not have their eyes on global dominance, but the USA does. Neither nation has the ability to contest the US military. However, they would like to keep the US off their borders and from taking control of their neighbors.

I suspect both nations know the US leadership is capable of starting a major war at any moment. A warlike nation like the US, should be feared because the leadership is crazy. No one but the US leadership wants a nuclear war.

America should. It is because of American dominance that the world has avoided a world war for 70 years.

If you gave China or Russia the same level of power and influence that America has, the world would be much worse. We see it happening already with their growth of power. They are a constant and aggressive threat to America and Western values.

Furthermore, if America wanted a nuclear war it would have happened long ago at a time more dangerous than today. Quite simply no one wants such a war, this is an economic war. The sooner Americans realize this the better. China is working to undermine your entire system have you reliant on debt until you collapse. They are not the only country involved in the tactics to exploit America unfortunately.

The US had several close calls with nuclear war during the Cold War. Most of them instigated by the US. The US had plans to destroy every Russian and Chinese city using nuclear weapons in a first strike. Then there is Operation Mongoose. There are others and probably some we know nothing of, thanks to a lying non-transparent government.

At this moment, they are probably trying to instigate war with NK, Iran, Russia and China.

Well you can be assured these close calls are not one sided. Also, as I recall it is North Korea that has threatened America with a nuclear attack. Russia and China who have aggressively used cyber attacks against the U.S government, N Korea against movie studios in America. China expanding against it's neighbors and taking an affront to anyone viewing Taiwan as independent.

The bottom line is, I don't think you appreciate how restrained America has been with it's power. It has of course looked out for it's own interests, but it hasn't suppressed it's own citizens or arbitrarily thrown dissidents into prison.

I go back to sleep now. We can continue this another time.

God Bless America! Get 'er done Trump!

The US threatens NK every day. How does a small nation like the NK, stand a chance up against the US?

If only the US leadership did not have a blood lust.

i.e. I'm taking over the Baltics, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.

I think it more likely that we must hope the Russians and Chinese can persuade the Imperial Capital NOT to start WWIII. The burden is on them to stop the crazed warmongers in the Pentagon...that is a heavy burden.

All mankind hopes they succeed.

Some experts say that the Russian Federation wants one thing above all: Respect.

For many years after World War II, the USSR was respected and feared.

It is understandable that many Russian leaders and ordinary citizens miss that status.

There are many ways, symbolic and substantive, that President Trump can use to show President Putin that the United States respects Russia (along with China) as one of the leading nations in today's world.

Showing respect (to a nation or to an individual) can often bring positive results.

Could be...and it should be remember, though it isn't, that the dunce Obama said the following....

Big Ears said Russia's economy "doesn't produce anything that anybody wants to buy," except oil, gas and arms. The only way Russia can affect the U.S., he said, is "if we lose track of who we are" and "abandon our values." "Mr. Putin can weaken us just like he's trying to weaken Europe if we start buying into notions that it's OK to intimidate the press, or lock up dissidents or discriminate against people," he said.

Obama: Russia is a "smaller and "weaker" country. "Their economy doesn't produce anything that anybody wants to buy"

Yet Trump is a fool and Obama a genius. CRAZY!!!

If they don't, the US will nuke NK...leading to WWIII and millions of deaths.

Nonsense. The former depends upon Kim. The latter is unlikely, as neither China nor Russia would sacrifice themselves to avenge North Korea.
