I always rooted for him. He was the greatest and very entertaining.

. Like some have said here, it probably was for moral purposes for the troops just like Elvis was during world war two or Prince William during Afghanistan. Wasn't that the conflict Prince William was a part of ? I don't believe it was for reasons of trying to get rid of him (Ali) or anything like that.

It just seems other athletes and movie stars had connections that kept them from getting drafted. Ali was bigger than any of them but managed to get called up

When Marciano fought Joe Louis, Louis was the favorite. And who says that Charles, Walcott, I'll add a couple more >> La Starza, Archie Moore, weren't as good as the guys you mentioned. Patterson got knocked out by Ingemar Johannsen. Norton got knocked out by Gerry Cooney in 54 seconds of the 1st round (he didn't even last 1 minute). he also got knocked out by an unknown fighter named Jose Luis Garcia.

"Cushy" National Guard gig ? Man. You've been getting a lot of bad information. I served 6 years in the National Guard, including 6 months of US Army with boot camp. 9 guys died in my unit during that time. Over 100 died in Korea. And more than that in World War II. My uncle was a National Guardsman, He got killed in the Marianas Islands in World War II.

The National Guard has fought in every single war that American has been in since World War II, including in Iraq and Afghanistan, and what we did in my unit just here in the states, is about the farthest thing from "cushy" anyone could imagine. Try building an M4T6 bridge, entirely by hand sometime, - no cranes.

3. It's Koran verses advocate (if not command) things which are illegal under US laws (mass murder, rape, wife-beating, pedophilia, slavery, severe sex discrimination, animal cruelty, etc)

He was a good boxer who was champ for awhile, but he got beat by a variety of different fighters. One of them (Leon Spinks), a low ranked almost unknown boxer, took the title from Ali, when Spinks was a rookie fighter with only 7 fights under his belt.

As for fighting a heavyweight, Rocky Marciano was a heavyweight (you obviously don't know what you're talking about), and what does it matter ? Clay called himself the greatest, not just the greatest heavyweight. He was nowhere near the greatest. Every one of the undefeated fighters I listed, were the greatest, and they EARNED that distinction by going undefeated, not by running their mouths, and calling themselves the greatest.
