Ronald Reagan's Birthday and the Myth of Reagan

Let me elaborate on one very controversial issue that I completely disagree with conservatives on, and that is abortion. Although I am personally opposed to abortion and find it rather disgusting act, you cannot force people to be parents who do not want to be parents. I know you would like to punish women who get pregnant out of wedlock, but that is too effing bad. The only person you would be "punishing" is the child. Kudos to those people who realize they would make crappy parents and don't bring children into the world that would probably turn out to be what you conservatives like to refer to as "thugs." Not to mention, the social services supports you would have to give these people unless you want their babies to die a horrible death.

No, he's right. I've met a lot of young people who consider themselves "socialists" and such. They do look up to those guys as idols too.

An old yet useful idiom:
"If you are not a liberal at twenty, you have no heart and if you are not conservative by thirty, you have no brain."

I like to consider myself really neither. There is just no way I could agree with all the platforms of either party.

Liberal and conservative (like socialists and capitalists) are not political parties.

So limited government, personal responsibility, strong national defense.......doesn't appeal to you?

Please, those are not the only platforms of the republican party, and you know it. What I object to most is their stance on social matters anyhow.

Yes I understand that I described a Republican platform and you made it clear that you don't agree with it.

Social matters have no business in federal government. IMO

True but no one is forced to be a parent. Adoption is a viable option. Thing is, are we disposing of unwanted fetuses or slaughtering babies and who will speak for those who cannot yet speak?

There are other alternatives to abortion, adoption being one.

It's simple. Don't want a baby? Don't get pregnant. No innocent life would then have to be terminated.

That is ignorant as hell, one of the reasons why I don't agree with conservatives.

Yes, adoption is an option for some people who wish to go through an unwanted pregnancy that carries with it many, many health risks. It's not just like, Oh, I'm pregnant, let me pop out a kid. Duh. It is a MEDICAL condition that comes with a lot of potential complications including loss of mom's life in some instances.

Oh, is that easy? Just don't get pregnant? Good grief. :rolleyes-41: For one thing, did it ever occur to you that SOME people who get pregnant may not be very mentally stable to begin with? Or maybe they are very young and naive? Shit happens.

No sorry, pregnancy is not an option for some people. You cannot FORCE women to go through unwanted pregnancies that carry risks.

The voices you hear are only inside your head. I hate Reagan because I lost everything I had shortly after he went into office, and didn't regain it until after he was finally gone. Yes, it was a direct result of his policies.
It was Clinton who signed off on welfare reform.

Neither welfare reform or Clinton had any thing to do with it.

Oh please. Lol. Let's be real. Liberals are democrats. Conservatives are republicans. That is nothing but silly semantics.

Again you demonstrate that right wingers have an imaginary bad guy that rush told them to call Democrat, and they have no idea what Democrats really are.

Knee Grow Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I know you fuckers. I hear you pining openly for the old glory that was the USSR.

Why do you think you hate Reagan so?

So it's all about you and your own little world.

What about the hundreds of millions Reagan liberated from Soviet Communism?

Reagan didn't liberate anybody. The Soviet Union collapsed.

So, do you think Obama is a good president?

Yes.

True but we're not discussing party platforms but rather personal socio-political ideology. You, for instance, seem to be mostly conservative but you admit to having probs with the Repub platform. Me too and I suspect many libs have probs with the Dem platform.

I agree and yet all pregnancies carry risks. Where do we draw the line? Where the risks are extraordinary or where the pregnancy and the baby are an unwanted inconvenience? I am opposed to gov't meddling in our personal affairs yet the question remains: are we disposing of unwanted fetuses or slaughtering babies and if the latter, who will speak for those who cannot yet speak?

Yes, you hit the nail on the head. I do hold a lot of conservative beliefs, but I hate how some of them want to interfere in individual liberty, and then there are the super religious ones. :rolleyes-41: Not all of us believe in religion.

WE don't draw a line. It is not up to you or I to decide for another person.

I find the religious conservatives to be mostly well-intentioned (though often misguided) but I have a real prob with the unvarnished bigots among us. They make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

But you are good with allowing those who you admit may be mentally unbalanced or incapable of making rational choices to decide the fate of the baby? I realize this is a sticky issue but can't we apply your requirement - that we don't decide for another - all the way through?

No. Mentally unstable doesn't necessarily mean the woman cannot make a decision. It means she may not be able to handle a pregnancy or a child. Now, you may think she shouldn't have sex to begin with, but that is going to happen. That is just life. I remember reading an article a couple of years ago about a mentally ill woman who was pregnant like six times, gave birth all six times and left her mom to care for all the children. The mom was petitioning the courts to have her mentally ill daughter sterilized because she couldn't afford to (and probably didn't want to) care for any more of her daughter's unwanted children.

This woman was MILDLY mentally challenged, not bad enough to be institutionalized but not very bright either.
