Should the republican party move towards a Rockeffeller Republican type party?

The polls show the American people as a whole blame the TeaPs.

You know that.

Yes, thanks to the main steam media taking the Democrats side and not reporting the facts.
What 'facts' haven't been reported?

That the Dem's refused to negotiate with the one year delay of the ACA and that is why the government shut down.
Had the Dems done a back and forth negotiation, they could have made a deal for a 3 month delay and then would not have had this embarrassing web site problem.
Dem's said no deal and insisted on rolling it out and that is why the government was shut down.

You just proved my point, the media sided with the Dems.
Had the people watched C-Span they would have seen that it was the Dems.
The majority of the people need to start watching C-Span and stop watching the news that does not report facts any longer.

And, when the truth came out, and we saw the outcome of the ACA website roll-out, the bottom fell out for obama according to a Quinnipiac poll

That was the day after the release of a devastating Quinnipiac national poll. It showed Barack Obama's approval rating at 39 percent, with his disapproval rating at 54 percent -- sharply down from 45 percent approval and 49 percent disapproval on Oct. 1, the day the government shutdown began and healthcare.gov went into (limited) operation.

While the above is a quote from Rasmussen, the 11/12/13 release from Quinnipiac can be seen here.

All of that before the ACA website was repaired and now doing much better.

All of that going on, which the GOP could have made mucho points on, while the GOP engaged in shutting down the government, for which the solid majority of voters blame the GOP.

All of the TeaP and reactionary spin only hurts the GOP.

We could have really made points against the Dems if we were not catering to the irrelevant far right.

One is the stuff you post, the other shoe polish.

What is so far right from wanting the rest of Americans getting a years delay, like the business have gotten?

The public may have blamed the GOP for the shut down at the time, but as the information as to why, namely the Democrats' refusal to delay the individual mandate, the GOP has recovered nicely. As a matter of fact, if the trend continues, 11/4/2014 should be a very good day for the country.

Republicans have jumped to a five-point lead on the Generic Congressional Ballot for the week ending December 1.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 43% of Likely U.S. Voters would vote for the Republican in their district’s congressional race if the election were held today, while 38% would choose the Democrat instead.

That's retarded. They have no obligation to negotiate! There is no expectation for a majority party to negotiate a law that's already been passed. And there is no precedent for it.

Stop sounding like a complete political ninny, peach.

That is exactly what our government does is negotiations between the two parties of our laws. Dem's refused to do it.

You are the ninny.
You have no clue as to how our government works.
I would suggest that you start reading up on how our Republic works and start watching some C-Span.

If the Dems had worked with the Repubs and had delayed the ACA for even 3 months, they would not have had this embarrassing debacle of their Health Care Web site.
Also we would not have had a Government shut down because of their refusal.

I have no problem with that as long as the government does not shut down.

We were dealing from a weak hand, bluffed, and the President called us on it, counting the electorate would come down on his side.

true, but they have hung their entire party on obamacare, they can't see logic, only that it must succeed, no matter how much it fails

Look what happened to the Dems on their ACA web site.
They really should have worked with the Repubs on the delay, instead of being stubborn. We would nave never of had the shut down and the Dems would not have had the embarrassing roll out of their web site.

yeah, because all you need is for dictator obama to unilaterally make changes to the law and implement his own delays

you're such a hypocrite

you people better do something because you can hang your hat on your 9% approval rating for only so long.

The 9% approval applies to the Congress which includes the Democrat controlled Senat that has only passed 1 budget in 5 years. The House passes one every year.

If we had not bluffed and made to look like fools, the debacle of a roll out would have made us look solid and knowing about we are about. We could have really made ground.

Instead . . . we blew it.

Only once in the last six elections have Republicans lost moderates and won the Presidency. Continuously losing a large swath of the electorate who may otherwise vote for you is not a recipe for success.

A political party is a brokerage of interests, not a means test for ideological purity. The GOP doesn't have to be a political party of Northeastern patricians, but driving out "RINOs" is a losing strategy.

Nope, the TeaPs forced Boehner into a position of weakness that the Dems did not have to assault.

They simply waited until the GOP collapsed.

And that's what the polls show. Only what the citizens think matters, not the TeaPs.

Had the main stream news reported it correctly, the citizens would have been better informed.
You know that the liberal Dems in the 70's did the exact same thing when they wanted their policies.

And they were wrong also.

No they weren't.
This is exactly why we are a Constitutional Republic, where the minority get to have their rights as well as the majority.

if they did, i would likely join the party again and i think the party numbers would surge.

what do you guys think?

It's underway now. Republicans will stand for fiscal conservatism. Social conservatives will have to squeeze in what they can, when they can.

If they are smart about it and have a good plan - I, for one, am all in.

We have been told we need "moderates" to win in every election. And for the last several we have gone for moderates like Dole, McCain and Romney. How has that worked out?
We do not need pander and water down our message to win elections. We need to strengthen the message. People vote for those who have principle and offer a clear program, and are generally likeable guys.
Reagan was a likeable guy.
Clinton was a likeable guy, esp after he appeared on Arsenio Hall.
Obama was a likeable guy, at least until he was discovered lying to the American people.
Republicans will never win by being Dem-lite.
