The FBI search of Mar-a-Lago was conducted because the DOJ and the FBI were out to get Trump. It happened because one of Trump's employees informed the FBI that Trump was hiding classified documents in Mar-a-lago.

The FBI and DOJ are not out to get Trump for the documents. There is a timeline were NARA and the FBI took their time asking for the documents back where they belong. At NARA.
Trump returned 15 boxes in January. Then decided to not return all the other documents. It caused the FBI to request a search warrant based on what witnesses said, of where those other documents were. Besides the documents, there are videos of boxes being moved after the DOJ demanded a returned of all of the documents.
