The CDC’s 2014 STD Surveillance Report, which was released on Tuesday, paints a disturbing picture. Among the data, chlamydia cases are up 2.8 percent since 2013, and gonorrhea cases are up 5.1 percent. Syphilis cases increased by a whopping 15.1 percent.

“STDs continue to affect young people —particularly women — most severely, but increasing rates among men contributed to the overall increases in 2014 across all three diseases,” the CDC said in a press release.

A few possible reasons.

1. For non-AIDS STD's while there were always gay/bisexual men, in the past there were far more "On the Down Low", thus reporting gets skewed.

2. The height of the AIDS crisis decimated the gay community, and overshadowed other STD's due to the cause of Death being HIV infection, not the opportunistic infections.

3. This one is a bit more uncomfortable, but the success in taking AIDS from a death sentence to a manageable illness has negated a lot of the safe sex work groups like Gay Men's Health Crisis did in the late 80's and the 90's. There are rumblings of things going back to the hedonistic "bad old/good old" days, and STD infections come with that.

The OP says STD's are on the rise. I have not refuted that. What I refute is your childish attempt to claim that it is due to the failure of teaching abstinence based on an article on one high school.
