Target policy of "walk of shame" results in a suicide.

Some liberal blogger is off the reservation; only supposed to attack Walmart.

Sheesh!

This is a "beyond horrible" story of a company policy gone awry. I am caught between disgusted and passionately angry and heartbroken for this young man's mother.

This outrageous policy has to stop like freaking yesterday. You don't do this to anyone in your employ. If I still lived stateside I'd be leading a boycott. Thank heaven's they are closing up here. But that's another story.

Target employee with Asperger's Syndrome committed suicide 'after humiliation of being wrongly accused of stealing and paraded through the store in handcuffs'
  • Graham Gentles of Pasadena, California, committed suicide three days after he was accused of stealing at the Target where he worked

  • Graham was 'paraded' around the store in handcuffs as punishment for stealing even though he was never charged and nothing was found

  • He suffered 'severe emotional distress' as a result of the situation,
  • which was made worse by his Asperger's Syndrome says his mother Virginia
  • Virginia has now filed a lawsuit against target for not just her son's death but also to end the company's 'walk of shame' practice

That's beyond gone awry. Management knew he had been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.
That's what they get for hiring the handicapped.

What a slimy thing to say.

No wonder you have to lie about being an attorney while you're actually just a drunk dog washer.

I'm a mega conservative Tipsy. I'm pissed at this. I will make sure that Target pays.

Did you miss the part in the article where the person who ends up fucking over Graham was anti war and argued with him the night before the son of a bitch walked in and accused Graham of stealing?

Only if there really is such a policy.

I have no sympathy. Millions of people are fired and have been fired that don't commit suicide. More people commit suicide because their boy friend or girlfriend walked out. This is a mentally disturbed young man. Perhaps Target shouldn't hire mentally deranged people at all just in case one commits suicide.

Target sucks, I won't go back. Last time, they carded me for beer, which is OK, they aren't allowed to use brains these days. But she demanded I take my driver's license out of my wallet and hand it over. I left instead. I did that once at Best Buy and the asshole quickly flipped it over and zapped the bar code. So that's two stores I don't shop at any more.

This story sounds like BS though. The store isn't going to handcuff anyone, the lawsuit would be astronomical. Cops would do the cuffing and they don't give a flip about a walk of shame.

How do you know that I just don't love tipsy cats?

I am perfect. I have no vices at all. I do not drink, use drugs, gamble, look at porn and I don't like sex. I am an angel on this flawed earth.

You actually sound like the most boring person on Earth.

That is required by many stores and actually LEGALLY required in some states. License doesn't scan, they cannot sell alcohol, no exceptions.

I have no idea what you're trying to say. And I've been buying booze for a while.

let's say this was store policy (weirdest policy ever)

why should the kid have been treated differently than anyone else?

This "walk of shame" appears to be the real deal. Other employees have come forward.

My issue with this is why wasn't the young man just questioned by management and / or why the police didn't just ask him to come to the station and answer questions.

What the hell right does any company have to assume guilt, handcuff and shame someone by parading them thru their store or place of employment? No proof of theft. Just the say so of a co-worker according to the suit.

This is over the freaking top. If the young man was suspected of stealing have him arrested and prove it in a court of law.

I'd like to see evidence that the store handcuffed anyone. The 'walk of shame' could be what the employees call being escorted from the back of the store to the front of the store. If cops cuffed them they'd need a reason, video or eye witness accounts.
